Pah - you’d struggle to find anything to buy for the £1k - if it’s limited the same way as the recent offer was you certainly would anyway. Socks sound like far more practical winnings! 😆
I can definitely sympathise about the amount of stuff an apparently small kitchen can hold. We discovered quite how excellent the storage we had built in to the one at the flat was when boxing things up to move - even the removal men said “no way did this lot come from that kitchen!” when they had it all unloaded here!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Hey @PennysIntoPounds - thought I should come and find you, since you're being my own personal cheerleader over on my diary! Haven't fully read through everything yet but I'm subscribing so that I kind step in and return your kindness where possible!
From what I have read so far, I note that you're a reader and library user. Just wanted to mention B0rrowbox in case you hadn't come across it before? It's basically a library app where you can borrow e-books or audiobooks for free. I'm very much in the "a book should be paper" camp and so don't like e-books but I do listen to audiobooks. Maybe you could put an audiobook on at night to drown out the sounds of the tap-dancing grandma!!!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £6,450.00
Total paid off - £9,150.89 (58% paid off)2 -
Sounds like a horrid and disruptive week for you.
I grew up in a top floor flat and was always told to be thoughtful of our downstairs neighbours. Mind you, when my mum did the washing on a Saturday afternoon the twin tub washing machine would shudder and jerk its way across the kitchen floor when it was in its spin cycle. I'm sure it sounded horrific in the downstairs flat. It needed constant supervision as when it went into its full on Kylie "spinning around" phase the hoses would detach from the taps and jerk out of the sink and flood the kitchen.
whilst we didn't have noisy neighbours above us we got the noise of the lift engine room. That had its advantages though as it gave some warning of parents returning home and meant I could end my call with school friends (only house phones back in the old days and phone bills were carefully scrutinised). I would be busy with my homework by the time their key went in the lock.4 -
How annoying about the stompy upstairs neighbour, @PennysIntoPounds. Many years ago, when I lived in a rented flat, I lived underneath the local drug dealer, so that was an experience I shouldn't care ever to repeat. People trogging up & downstairs all day & night to buy their supplies, or long periods of banging on the door because Mr DD was out for the count, presumably having been sampling the wares. The dawn raid by the police when it happened was even noisier! It wasn't really 'that kind' of area, either, so probably why he chose it. So I'm kicking in my sympathies. The cumulative effects of missing sleep over several days can be very draining. Perhaps you should post some catalogues though your neighbour's letterbox advertising soft-soled very fluffy slippers.

Thanks for your comments and support all, they are much appreciated
Everything is chaos
Managed admin and a client job (hopefully they won't come back and say 'um, you've just sent us a primal scream') in between going to a neighbours to use the loo, blessings be to nice neighbours
Found out about Starting Rate for Savings where if you're under a certain income you get to have up to 5k in tax-free interest, which I had no idea existed and makes me feel better for not getting round to trying to make (up) sense of doing an ISA
Drank a can of water and can of Pepsi from the fridge which neither of us would usually have but we needed liquids as no running water, glad we were mse enough to keep these freebies, despite frequent frowns at them taking up space in the fridge
Had a small-decent walk to a work meeting which happily was in a pub
It is nearly 830pm and the plumber is still here because things keep going awry. It is very much not great for us but I really bloody hope he's being paid well

Another early start to be half decent before the workmen got here. Couldn't get in the kitchen for most of the day and was starving, the free snacks that came with the beer delivery were much appreciated
I called to cancel the beer and wine subscriptions and while I did cancel the wine one, I was offered another deal for beers that was cheaper (and better beers) than in shops, and certainly cheaper than in pubs so went for that and made a note in diary to cancel next month
Got paid for a couple of little jobs so sent share to tax pot
Sent £10 to the flat pot from vinted
A few surveys, admin and small bit of work
Had a nice walk in the glorious sun
Resisted using a 50p off galaxy voucher from coop as I felt the prices were still too high. Will be annoying not to use it but will see if a different store has different galaxy products tomorrow before voucher runs out. Was very pleased with myself for not spending money just because something was cheaper, rather than a bargain
Entered some competitions, today I'm mostly looking forward to winning 1k
Workmen back tomorrow morning bright and early so I'll be getting an earlyish night after enjoying some beers indoors with Mr PIP, who bought me this very mse themed beer!

I like the boots theory. I only heard about it a couple of years ago but it is a sensible and obvious wisdom.I've got the galaxy voucher too - I haven't spent mine either but only because I haven't been near the co-op and I've got a box of maltezers in stock. How much longer will the workmen be there?1

The works are for 15-22 days @Blackcats
I'm running away to Mr PIP's tomorrow to get disturbed by the upstairs neighbour instead 😁1 -
I’m going to admit I had to look up that theory but it’s so true.Hopefully the works will be worth it in the end and at least be done in time to get straight for Christmas.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1
