Tidying
35 minute walk getting an olio colander, a couple of cute plates- and the Kipling Christmas cakes
Then a 30 minute walk in the opposite direction to get essentials from aldi
Comping
Went to mums and dropped off bits and bobs including free paper for crossword, found a pair of my earrings we were looking for and came back with another few pairs she gave to me 😊
Mum decided not to let the Kipling Christmas cakes go to waste and cut off the almond paste and icing and ate the fruit cake bits 😁💪
Back, laundry on and more tidying and admin, popped back out to post a letter mum had asked me to before the predicted torrentials and gale force winds tomorrow
Hung up laundry, did dinner prep- aldi didn't have any sheets of puff pastry but they did have a pizza dough sheet so will try that with veg and cheese
Blimmin knackered!1 -
Its a shame your Mum got busy with a knife. I could have helped you out with the Christmas cake.0

Good for your Mother, I'd have eaten the icing and the almond paste in a 'jack sprat could eat no fat, his wife could eat no lean' style. I have a packet of marzipan in the baking box (RTC last year). Must resist. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I have a similar cake topping problem. I don't like almond paste & my sister doesn't like icing. I buy my DS one of the blocks & leave him to it. Massive confession here I am not a big fan of cake. Many other massively fattening things just not cake. or even a gateau that is only about 10% cake.

When I was a young whippersnapper 200 years ago family members used to save me the marzipan from wedding/Christmas cakes as that was the only bit I liked 😆
My tastes have changed over the years and nowadays I find it far too sweet.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Can’t stand marzipan. But will suffer its presence on Christmas cake if necessary0

marzipan only if it absolutely cannot be avoided, just the slightest scraping so that the icing sticks to the cake, I'm sure she used to use apricot jam.

I’ll be happy to have any leftovers of any desserts, cakes, pies etc. Can’t think of anything much I wouldn’t nibble on. 😋0

And many thanks for the ear worm PiP! Nothing like an annoying underground creature in your lug hole to finish the week with.1
