Glops that you’re not as sore as you thought you’d be but not good that you’re still sore. That sentence sounds like a cryptic crossword clue 😆
You’ve reminded me I need to brush the old cat. When I took her to the vet last week her fur was flying all over the place!

Words just words.
my sister and I have come to the conclusion that local government is actually just another benefits system and no one actually works there.
I have found that assuming people only have 75% of the competence they need to do a job helps lower my expectations1 -
I would pay good money for 75% competence occurring @WelshmansDaughter 😂😭
As it is, we're paying good money for 0% competence happening anywhere, grr, grr, and grr again!

Does anyone know owt about utility companies and pre payment meters?
Mr PIP has received a closing bill jointly to him and someone he's never heard of who's not the landlord or the previous tenant.
It's saying he/they owes the company over two hundred quid.
He was on pre payment meters for gas and electric, and the price includes standing charges. He called and they said because he hadn't used much energy, increases in rates weren't reflected in his usage because he hadn't needed to top up often enough. I know energy prices tripled last winter but that seems a bit much, it's not like he was topping up by hundreds of quid every time.
And is that even his problem if he was paying what they told him to pay at the time?!
And they said this bill comes from before smart meters were installed (a few months before he moved out) and is outstanding from when this company took over a bust one. But surely they would be obliged to let someone know (especially if they're 'energy vulnerable' by being on pre payment meters) if they owe hundreds of pounds, not just say it when you move.
He was just asking who the heck this other person is when the line went suspiciously dead!0 -
No experience of pre-payment meters @PiP but have taken on a couple of skankrous energy companies in my time. I think this sounds fishy. The unknown name rather rings alarm bells, doesn't it? Agree it's worth pursuing.

I wonder if they have charged based on this years usage if he had a meter that wasn't working before. If so I thought I would tell you that so far this June I have already used more than 10 times as much gas as I did all last June. It obviously isn't as significant for electricity but it does make a difference. I wonder also if there could be a back billing problem if the meter issue lasted over a year.

Cheers @foxgloves, I am cantankerous enough when it comes to energy companies but we are certainly not just handing over money for a bill jointly addressed to a bloke we've never heard of! It is also seeming well suss that at no point in the last few years, including being the new provider, has anyone mentioned being hundreds of pounds in debt before...
@badmemory the meters were working before, the company just decided he had to have smart meters. I meant the former energy company went bust rather than the meter was bust! There's no reason to think he wasn't paying what he was supposed to, he was just at mine half the time so wasn't needing to top up often and doesn't use much energy anyway0
