My son reads fan fiction and fantasy - and recognises that some of it is not as well written as it might be but enjoys reading it anyway. By dire I mean formulaic, or not particularly well researched, or well written, or using jarring language for the setting.
Beanie - I think the only ones I did not read in my killing time in a bookshop days were the cowboys ones, just not my thing. simple pleasures. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Don't get me wrong, I have lots of snobberies, I just think it's important to make sure they're ones own snobberies and not the product of a non-visible patriarchal worldview 😁
But seriously I reckon the intent of the author in wanting to share a story or have their reader enjoy it shines through in writing at all levels- I recently got some free books from Olio and one was of the ridiculously popular 'women getting through the war with a chipper attitude despite the tragedies' genre and I thought I'd give it a go.
It was dire. 😂
But I still cared enough about what happened to the characters and could see why other people get something from it.
On the other hand, one of the books I'm reading that I thought would be right up my street, that has rave reviews from various publications, is a real struggle. The author seems to think it's all about them and I feel like they've hijacked what could have been a fantastic book with their pure lack of self-awareness.
(Granted I've just written a lengthy post no-one asked for expressing my irrelevant views but I'm not expecting the leading newspapers of the country to say it's brilliant 😁)5 -

Does she no longer have them because you cut through them with scissors in the middle of the night @Sun_Addict, leaving their scattered string and pipe remnants strewn about as a warning to any other windchimers. Mornin all, shoulder still very ouch. Must have been all the outrageous things I did yesterday evening like taking the lid off my lipbalm, pulling my knickers up after using the loo, and trying to cut the garlic bread into slices. I ended up eating it in half-baguette form like a savage
The main things that absolutely must be done today are:
Shower and hairwash
Go to the shop to get dinner in for me and Mr PIP
Pack for car boot sale
Have already done admin, comping, survey, tidying though am putting the washing up on the B list
The rest of the B list:
Enter competitions
Extra steps going to meet Mr PIP for a beer
Work out when I can get to Mr PIPs for a few days. Want to make as much use of him having a flat in that area and feels like there's no good time to do it!
Everything else on today's to-do list
Things I actually want to do: go back to bed

Hang on in there, @PiP. You do very well considering your daily pain levels.

Thanks @foxgloves x
Does Mr WW know you're suggesting people you know online should go knicker-less @WinterWarrior 😂 😘0 -
Shower and hairwash: Done. Slowly
Go to the shop to get dinner in for me and Mr PIP: Done. Slowly
(Bit of interlude music while I have a small lie-down and read with some chocolate)
Pack for car boot sale: Done, and remembered we'd need loose change so raided the coins pot (it will be paid back)
From the B list:
Mum did the washing up bless her
Entered some competitions, today I'm mostly looking forward to winning 1k but I would also like the prize of show tickets with an overnight stay, dinner and £200 spending money included, as long as we don't have to go to the show
Extra steps going to meet Mr PIP for a beer, a nice time catching up was had although me holding my shoulder in place looked a bit odd.
Gave a line of Camra vouchers to one of the nice blokes who shared their table with us and he was well pleased
Up and at 'em for car boot sale tomorrow, hopefully we'll make a wee profit for flat pot but if not at least some people will be pleased with bargains and we'll have contributed to a more circular and environmentally friendly society!
