Sorry to read you’re still feeling 💩 I’m glad you’re listening to your body and not trying to do too much though.

Do you not qualify for free flu and Covid vaccines due to your health conditions?

Hoping you finally turn a corner with this pesky virus very soon.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • I don't qualify @Sun_Addict though maybe next winter the rules will have changed again.
I can't believe the government can possibly be saving money on not offering flu and covid jabs to anyone who wants one, especially since they're being administered anyway to the more at risk groups.
This is the worst winter I can remember for so many low risk people being randomly ill and being badly affected. It must be costing the economy as well as the NHS an absolute fortune
  • I hope you feel better soon. Sounds awful and such a drain on all your energy. Be kind to yourself and sending warm wishes for improvements to happen quickly.

Hope you had a quiet night and a good sleep 🤞
I know this sounds a bit random but I have been using a salt pipe for a while now after a recommendation by one of my team in work after I got lumbered with a horrid lingering cough last autumn. Basically during WW2 a load of people took shelter in a salt cave and they came out with ridiculously low levels of respiratory disease or conditions, considering their ages and respective health when they went in there. Breathing in the salt seemed to really help. They are a bit spendy (not ridiculously so) but I have hesitated to mention it as I know you are on quite a disciplined budget. I’ve been using one for c. 3 months now, 10 minutes per evening, and haven’t had a full blown cold since 🤞 I know what you are battling isn’t just respiratory as it has gone to your ears, but it might be worth looking at?
    Sending hugs x

@PiP......I hardly dare enquire if there has been any improvement. What a vile lergy. Did the nurse suspect it is flu? I had never had flu until.my 50s when I managed to get it 3 years running, aged 50, 51 & 52 !! I have honestly never felt so poorly & have paid for a flu jab ever since. I had previously been one of those folk who described a really bad cold as 'flu'.....until I actually succumbed & learned the difference. The annoying thing (& I know you will empathise with this) is that all the advice about the duration of flu is that the sufferer picks up after a week & is usually back to normal after a fortnight - something I hoped & expected would happen & was then gutted to feel like a steaming pile of the proverbial for a fortnight, a bit better in week 3 & still coughing a month later!
Coughing all night is exhausting when you need sleep to heal.
Sooooo hoping there is a little improvement today, PiP.

  • I'd not heard of that before @KajiKita, how interesting. I'm hesitant to add anything more into the mix at the moment, especially as you say with my ears being such a major factor, but will certainly consider it for the future. Thank you for being considerate about my budget but please feel free to mention interesting or potentially useful things any time, one never knows when Ernie will bring sumptuous blessings 😁
  • Thank you @foxgloves, no particular improvement unfortunately. Another night coughing and aching and sweating. My ribs and waist don't half ache.
The nurse looked in my ears and said as there's no sign of infection she wanted me to see the doctor, who looked at ears and throat and also said no sign of infection. He said it  could be any of the viruses doing the rounds. I don't feel like it's flu but I suppose there are enough mutations of everything out there now that it could be anything. I'm a few days off the three week mark and would very much appreciate some significant improvements!
I can't work out what's driving me most mad, the cough is awful but the ears are preventing me from being able to think, I feel like I'm in a parallel universe where coherent thought has been replaced with whoosh whoosh whoosh and never being able to get a hold on a thought process as it just disappears into an ear abyss.
Another client has got in touch with a slightly complex job and I can't turn it down, especially as it's the first part of three, but usually I'd be pleased to have something intellectually challenging to do and right now I'm like 'there are definitely words in this brief, but what order they're supposed to be in is somewhat beyond me'. I'll just have to take it slowly and triple check my work.

I know you have been given lots of advice but my dh has been having ear troubles too. When we saw the Dr she said the infection he had was clear but that he had a fluid build up behind his ear drum which was making him deaf and causing pain. Her remedy was to hold his nose and blow as though he had blocked ears from flying. He is to do that 4 times x 4 times a day. I don't know if it would help you but thought I would  pass it on.
  • Thank you @ladyholly, can't hurt to try. Especially if you're saying it for your own amusement as you imagine me, snotty and baffled, trying to blow through my pinched nose 😁
  • Things I managed today:

    Small tidying and admin

    Shower and hairwash

Opened a tab to start work on a job tomorrow, which is clearly the most important bit

    Half comping

Was considering a walk but ate a slice of toast and that was so tiring I went back to bed instead

    Other half of comping

    Lidl receipt survey

Feeling a bit miserable about everything, wish I was well enough to spend Friday evening with Mr PIP doing beers and catching up and pizza and all the little enjoyments you take for granted.
Have cancelled our weekend social plans us and our friends were looking forward to.
    Really hope I'm better soon.

Hope you all have a good Friday eve x
