I had a productive day yesterday. Planted all the spring bulbs in various tubs and containers and painted the new section of the garden fence.
Weather looks good here today do will spend a little time weeding a flower bed and then will clean the car ready for my trip later this week.
  • I too have been frantically trying to get on top of the garden last week before the rain and colder weather sets in.  I got as far as emptying my tubs of summer bedding, but haven't quite managed to plant any bulbs or pansies yet.  I did manage to get both lawns cut and hopefully the colder weather will slow down more growth.

After the wind last night and this morning I see the never-ending task of cleaning up leaves has now begun :(

  • Well I'm no gardner so I can't comment.

But on another matter I do like my holidays. I really cannot fathom the prices.

Yesterday I booked a holiday....£2150 inc a room upgrade. Today the same holiday is £4150 without the upgrade.

    I simply don't get it.

Many companies use demand pricing, the more people want it, the higher the price gets. With modern technology it can easily & quickly done, whereas previously it required a human to spot it
An obvious example is during school holiday time
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

I recently booked a long weekend away in a European city.
Whether booked for 2, 3, 4 or 5 nights, the price was the same (to within 10%).
All I can think is that the flights became less popular midweek, and that compensated for the extra days in the hotel.
    So we chose 5 nights!

Business flyers tend to be Monday & Friday and weekenders Friday & Sunday, so your logic sounds good to me!

  • Whenever I travel within UK I always use off peak times. I also avoid weekends and school holidays. Premier Inns are very good mid week and can be on a Sunday when weekenders have gone home and no trade travellers.
Likewise with travel abroad I travel always off peak and will vary durations to take advantage of cheaper flights. I don’t use packages rather booking own accommodation, flights and car hire.
I am currently in Kent having breakfast in a Premier Inn. I have stayed the weekend unusually as had to take a family member to see a relative. Travelling home later tonight earlier than expected to miss Monday morning travel rush. Losing a bit of money and had to pay a ferry supplement but feeling a bit fed up and want to get home!!
I will be collecting relative on Thursday.
  • When I get home I will be revising my pots budgets and sizes. I have been too cautious about some spending and with state pension starting next July I can ease up a bit.

Furthermore I was informed this weekend of the death of a school friend from long ago aged 65. The first of our known group to pass, which I found unsettling and got me pondering.

I will post my usual monthly summary at the end of the month. I have decided to write in less detail but hopefully it will continue to be useful.
  • Sorry to hear you are feeling fed up after your weekend in Kent. Also sorry to hear about the death of your school friend. 65 is no age and just shows that we should enjoy life as much as we can as we never know how long we have got.

Hope you feel more settled once you get home. Have a safe trip.
