Just on here on my laptop now and the text in the comment box is surprisingly large and bold - I think I now see why people remarked about being aimed at visually impaired people (though that really doesn't work for the rest of the site, of course).
It is still a lot of work to parse thread titles and 'New / new posts', and it really does highlight how much space is devoted to extraneous information rather than content of the posts. But one small positive is it's marginally easier on the eye with a bit more contrast on my laptop (although I did still have to turn down the screen brightness).
I use mobile devices most of the time though so that's not all that much help to be honest.0 -
To be blunt this is probably the last time I will visit MSE I find this new layout almost impossible to navigate0

Absolutely hate it, I liked the compact style of the previous forum, and being colour blind this just does not work for me, I just don't come here much now as a result!

I've persevered but I've decided what is making my forum life most difficult is this:
When you look at a list of new threads/posts on a board, why are pointless things (like the board it sits on = not needed) in bold but the most important thing - the thread title - isn't?
The thread titles are the only thing that needs to be in bold, along with that insipid and unremarkable 'NEW' box that really needs to 'shout' for attention.
Please bold both and remove the line that says which board it sits on. We know which board we are reading.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:

@Coupon-mad, the thread title is in bold for all those threads which have unread posts on them. Is that not the case with you?
I use that feature, rather than the "unremarkable 'NEW' box", as a good indicator of those threads that I still need to read.

MikeJXE said:What I do like is I can easily get to my favourites (maybe I could before but never tried.
I have favourites in banking, savings, energy, techie stuff, and a few more.
What is mostly surprising is they were always very very busy busy I could hardly keep up as I spent most of my day on here.
Now nothing happening1 -
Every time the board chnages i'm less inclined to use it.I've been through 2 board changes, and every time it chnaged I used it a lot less. I have to re-learn where things are, the layout makes it seems like I'm in an unfamiliar forum. A lot of my forum activities have moved onto reddit. I used to use the motoring, DIY and other forums. And I've moved onto reddit for all of those threads now.
I just post here for the benefits boards because reddit doesn't have anything similar.Balance transfer/credit cards, reddit has a pretty good ukpersonalfinance subreddit for. With layout changes, Everything is harder to find, things move around a bit and I dont know how to find things.Big chnage for me (and with most forums I use) is they have decided not to have the board index as the main page, but have collection of all the most recent posts across all boards as the main post.I find that view annying and never liked it. If forums are going to have threads shown like reddit, then I might as well stay on reddit.1 -
It's Vanilla forums (free open source) that are likely the source of the problems, You have to keep the forum code up to date and then the 'theme' no longer works with the new version, and you have to find or build a new one from scratch. The developers just refuse to leave the 'themes' alone and have to break them and start over every so many years, they all do it.2
