I've been very busy with it and removed most of the stuff to the right.
Also removed the pointless badges next to the names to make it less cluttered.

The other very inconvenient thing is that the teal bar at the top with "Quick links" (which also has another link to "all boards") and "Categories" (likewise) opens up and hides a big portion of the page whenever I move my mouse over it.
It also stays there if the mouse is left there while you use cursor keys to scroll the page, like certain news website pages plastered in adverts so you can't see the story underneath0 -
I appreciate people saying we should try this ad-blocker or that plug-in - but we shouldn’t need to be using ‘extras’ just to make the forum more acceptable in use. It should just work without the need to use add-ons.I know there’s been a ton of negative feedback, and the odd comment to say they’re looking at it or working on it. I can imagine behind the scenes there’ll be discussions including ‘well that can’t be changed so tough’ and ‘we can tweak that’ and maybe even ‘we can change that completely’ - but it’s likely a rolling process. As much as the consensus is go back to where we were - at the moment I don’t see it happening.I alluded to the fact that board participation appears to have dropped - and that with the ‘barriers’ that seem to be in place to be able to just see the board, having to get through all the guff, means that if we stay as we are, we’ll likely be on a fairly downward trajectory. So I hope that enough changes are made to make the board genuinely easier to use rather than just trying to make it prettier with pictures, but for the moment we can only sit and wait while things are tinkered with.It doesn’t stop us continuing to provide feedback though. It would be nice to have a practical easy access board with intuitive functions -
stripping out the guff. Keep it simple and straightforward.12 -

I have a number of boards marked as 'favourite' (now called 'followed content'.
I usually look at this list to see if any new threads have been posted.
This used to be easy as the date and time of the latest post was shown.
If no new content, I just pass that board by.
However, with this new version, my 'followed content' does not show any date or time information.
It just shows what the latest post is. That may be 3 weeks old on a quiet board.
It does however inform me that I started following a particular board on dd/mm/yy and that there are xxxx discussions on that board.
What use is that information to anyone?
So now I have to go into the board to see if there are any new threads/posts that I may be interested in.
Why?I tend to open sites with a number of tabs to my favourites, so swapping across them is easy.In Firefox you can create new Profiles for your interests (eg. "my-mse", "my-facebook", "my-ebay", ...), run the browser and open tabs for each page you want, save the home page to include them, and save shortcuts to open the browser with the profile(s).Then running the shortcut will open a browser with the tabs pre-loaded.0 -
I don't mind the upgrade, and I can live with the change.
But activity seems to have fallen off a cliff since the change which is not good.

Anyone know if it's a bad sign, when you start to see smoke coming from the scroll wheel on your mouse?Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.8 -
Regarding the right hand side of the webpages ...
- the 'Create New' option can be moved
- the Quick Links panel is superfluous
- the MSE News features are not part of the Forum
... so much could be done with that wasted space for instance used for the forum threads and posts.1 -
Coupon-mad said:I've persevered but I've decided what is making my forum life most difficult is this:
When you look at a list of new threads/posts on a board, why are pointless things (like the board it sits on = not needed) in bold but the most important thing - the thread title - isn't?
The thread titles are the only thing that needs to be in bold, along with that insipid and unremarkable 'NEW' box that really needs to 'shout' for attention.
Please bold both and remove the line that says which board it sits on. We know which board we are reading.
Keep the nicknames, but remove all excessive unneeded links from the board view! They clatter the page and make it more difficult to click (and even more difficult to tap) what you actually need - the thread title.
An extra link to the first page of a thread will be much more useful - there are threads where the first page is updated on a regular basis.0 -
Terrible format have to scroll twice as much to read anything. Visually one subject blends into another. Why fix what wasn't broken ? A downgrade if ever i saw one.3

I simply want the features back from the old version.1
