The Forum is getting a new text editor

UPDATE:
We have reverted to using our previous editor. Please see this post.
________________________________
Quite soon we will be upgrading to a new text editor.
Our current editor is considered 'legacy' and is no longer supported, which is why you may have noticed a few bugs.
Our new editor is much more powerful with lots of new features.
Biggest Change - Quotation Blocks
The biggest change you will notice is the way quotations are handled. Our new editor adds quotations as a single block into the reply box.

This means that members won’t have the frustrating experience of their cursor becoming ‘stuck’ in the quote any more.
Similarly, we regularly receive emails from new members complaining of a “Body is 5 characters too short” message, because they don’t realise they are typing inside the quotation area.
Unfortunatly, this format means it will be harder to highlight just the part of a quote you want to respond to, but, as in the gif below, you will still be able to do this manually by copying from the original post and formatting it as a quote.
Other New features
Some of the new features inlcude...
A new Emoji Picker
Quick access to all the standard emojis rather than just a few smileys.
Link Format
You will be able to choose the way links display in your posts.
Tables
You'll be able to paste tables from another source, such as Word or Excel.
NOTE: At a later date, you'll be able to create tables from scratch.
Image Management Options
Float - You can float the image left, centre, or right.
Size - Small, medium, and large.
Alt text - Help other members with accessibility issues by describing your image
Keyboard Shortcuts
For the Power Users in the community there will be lots of keyboard shortcuts Including -
ctrl+b or ⌘+b for bold.
ctrl+i or ⌘+i for italic.
ctrl+k or ⌘+k for link menu
"-" and press space to begin a bulleted list.
"1." and press space to begin a numbered list.
...and many more, including some limited 'Markdown' support .
We hope you enjoy our new Rich Text Editor!

Will it now support the ability to move back and forth word by word (using Ctrl+Left/Right Arrow) rather than just going to the start or end of the line?

Having a brief look, it looks great, nothing stays the same, things always change, but this is for the better. I am sure of that, always takes me an age to get use to new things, and when I finally master it, its time for a change.

I like some of the promised improvements, especially the "tables" features.
1) I hope the LINK FORMATTING makes posting a working email address easy...
2) ...AND you don't lose a working email address if you subsequently edit the post.
3) There is no mention of coloured text.2 -
Looks good on first reading, do you think we can have the opportunity to colour the text?7
-
Can we have text size please? Like, in html you can do < small > for text, but you can't change it via rich text editor. And I'm too lazy to code every time I want to change my signature.
Also seconding coloured fonts please.❀ total debt at LBM 01/2023: £47,178.76 ❀ debt at highest point: £51,062.14 ❀❁ currently - £24,950 ❁ emergency fund - £2,500 ❁⚜ decluttering medals: ⭐️ || running total physical items in: 74 out: 160£1600+ made on vinted since 2023 ⚜

Very Old Posts with BBCode.
I have a couple of threads (that are regularly edited) that pre-date the move to Vanilla, and to maintain the formatting these threads allow "heritage" BBCode - as shown in the screen extract below. I hope these still work OK, or at least allow me access to the data in the posts.

Hi everyoneI'm taking a note of all of the responses. I'm not going to try to answer all questions as you'll soon be able to try the editor for yourself.
Two points I'll make -- There won't be the ability to change text colour or size (apart from adding headings, bold etc.), and this is unlikely to be added as these can make text less legible. Accessibility is considered a very high priority which is why these abilities are not being considered by our provider.
- This editor is actively being developed and improved by our provider, so we can ask for any features our members feel are missing to be considered for a future release.
