I also work condensed hours, but couldn't face 9.5 hour days, so I went with 1 day off every 2 weeks. I have to take a minimum of 30 mins for lunch and work 8-5 Mon-Thurs and 8-3.45 on Fridays. I have every other Monday off, and that works for me as if a bank holiday falls on my day off I get the day off and the hours back to use when I want them.
Nearly everyone I work with has a flexible working arrangement and they are pretty much all different, although Fridays seem to be the most popular day to take off!
Agile working and flexitime both make me a happy bunny!

I also used to have an arrangement where I had 1 day off every 2 weeks, as working 4 long days felt like too much to me. My employer has now turned against the idea and actively discourages it.
I would definitely recommend going for a compressed working arrangement if you can. I was always flexible with my arrangement as it didn’t always suit me, or the business, to take a set day off every 2 weeks.

  • Wow, thanks for the feedback everyone, I really appreciate it! I will let you all know how I get on :)  I am leading towards Wednesdays so that it breaks up the week. I really like the idea of never having to work more than 2 days in a row.

I hope everyone is having a decent week so far. It's flying by for me because I've had a lot on. Today will be a NSD and £5 has been sent to the sabbatical as my PAD.  No plans now until Sunday so that's good.

I realised yesterday that I have completely fallen off the wagon in terms of Prolific and my receipt snapping, considering how they helped me clear my debts I really should start doing those again and boost the savings.

    That's all from me today
    Have great days!

I do a 9 day fortnight with flexi hours with every other Wednesday off. My usual hours are 8.40-5.30pm with 30 mins for lunch.  It works really well for me knowing I have that day to look forward to. I am considering asking to reduce my hours slightly to work 4 days a week, dropping just 4 hours a week would let me do this without affecting my pay massively.
  • Hi all and happy Friday! Hope you've all had a good week and are looking forward to the weekend?  I don't have any extravagant plans this weekend, I might meet my sister for some lunch on Sunday as my husband will be in bed, working nights.

I've PADded quite a bit to savings challenges today, along with £5 to the sabbatical as usual.  No spend day for me today too, I've been very busy since early this morning and I didn't sleep well last night so I think it will be an earlyish night for me tonight too.

Hope you all have fab weekends ahead

  • Good morning and happy Monday,

Not got as much time this morning as I am about to start my first long day of the trial week :)
It's a NSD for me today though which is a good start to a very spendy week and then I have PADded the £5 to the sabbatical as usual and sent £39 to the envelope challenge.

I may pop back at lunch and let you know how tired I am :D

  • Hello all, sorry I am late today, I was at the gym before work this morning and then at lunch I had a hospital appointment.

Not a NSD for me, hospital car park charges and I am out tonight (but driving), it won't be a late one either as I am getting used to these earlier starts.

My PAD was £5 to the sabbatical today, but I will be rolling those dice in the morning so the sealed pot will get a boost from that.  Heading closer to that £5k mark now and I already have so many plans for the money!

That's all from me... so far I am surviving the long days.

It is really great that your employer seems pretty open to flexibility, I hope it works out better for you. Do you think you could do it long term?

I'd like to think I can do it long term, I think the benefits of a day off will outweigh the longer days.  The company has a good flexible working policy and every request has to be considered so i am hopeful that after the trial to see if I like it I can get it put in place.

  • Happy Wednesday all, it turned out to be a late night for me after all, but I only spent £20 so that wasn't bad at all really. No chance of a NSD now until Friday at the earliest as I have lots of stuff on this week.

I had good news from my hospital appointment and won't need any more scans for a year so that's a positive.

In terms of finances, my PAD included £5 to the sabbatical and £66 in dice rolls to the sealed pot, but that's all from me this morning, have wonderful days!
