Really pleased to hear hubby is stable, that sounds a lot more positive. I know the recovery is the big next step, but remember to be kind to yourself too.1

Hi all, I'm sorry I've not updated for a while. Things are still not great here and DH is still in the hospital. We seem to have had blow after blow and to be perfectly honest it's really taking its toll on me both physically and mentally.
There was a complication after his surgery and there's some internal leaking which needs to heal. He's being fed through an IV and is on what feels like a hundred antibiotics, all done on IV lines so he can't really venture out of bed, even if he had the strength to.
I am meeting myself coming backwards, between work, looking after the house and DSD and then going to visit, sometimes I've worked from the hospital when his mental health has plummeted, but I can't do this all the time and I feel guilty for that.
We found out a few weeks ago that he's not entitled to company sick pay, so I have been worrying about the bills... but I am an excellent budgeter these days and I have worked out how we can make sure everything is covered by my wage plus his bit of statutory sick pay. I've helped him move his credit card to 0% (don't even get me started on why he was paying any blummin' interest) and we should be fine.
I do have my savings that we can fall back on, but at this point I have no idea how long we will be in this position, his recovery will be many months, not weeks.
So, things may change for me next month in how much I can save as I will be almost doubling the amount I pay to the joint account. The challenges will have to stop I think, certainly the dice as they are not predictable and I can't really 'budget' for those. I will try and keep the £5 daily sabbatical going and see what I have left at the end of each month/week/pay period or whenever.
I am still here, not fallen off the wagon and started blowing loads of money on senseless rubbish, I just need to deal with real life at the moment.
Thanks for all your support and kind words

Tough tough times unfortunately LMD,
On the positive side you really turned your financial situation around and continued with the positive habits to put yourself into a much more positive financial position, so finances does not have to be as much of a problem as they might otherwise have been at the moment.
If you have to scale back on your saving so be it. The good thing is that you continued to work on fixing the roof while the sun was shining, putting you in a much better place for a time when finances take hit.
Take things a day at a time and try not to catastrophise too much. Easy for me to say I know. Your husband is in the best place when it comes to being looked after and you are doing your very best through every difficult day.

Hi guys, I thought I would give a bit of an update this morning as it's been a while (although nothing has really changed much) DH is still in the hospital and thinks we are looking at another 10-14 days before he can come home. The internal leaking is getting batter but is still present so whilst it's not great, at least things are going in the right direction.
For now, I am continuing to save as much as I can (not going anywhere apart from the hospital) and so far nothing has had to give. I think I will try to keep up the dice challenge but not do the £2k one as the remaining amounts on there are £80 and £70 slots which I can't see me having available.
I did make an amendment to our upcoming holiday, I called them and paid it off in full so I know what money I'm working with (monthly payments for holidays just don't work for me) and I upgraded us to all inclusive so that we don't have to worry about taking loads of money. It can just be a rest and relax holiday. I also checked with the airline what we need to do for his mobility/accessibility and they were super helpful and put my mind at rest.
Today's PAD is £21 which is £5 to the sabbatical as usual and £16 to the envelope challenge. Not had a NSD since 18th June due to hospital car parking charges....and lots and lots and lots of fuel!
Anyway, that's where we are. I will try to remember to post my PADs each day but there's not much free headspace at the moment!
Much love
