cycling? It is well known through history that there have been long term cycles in the average global temperature.

This one however is a bit unusual in that the upward trend is much more rapid than that of previous cycles over the last 10k years+

I'm not looking at the UK in isolation here, but the overall global trend. Our 'cool' april has been due to the unusually wavy polar jetstream sending a constant stream of cold polar air towards us and is in direct contrast to other regions e.g. southern europe.

Caught a chill yesterday by wearing a gilet instead of a warm coat to walk the dog. The sunshine and Spring greenery are deceptive, the wind is cold.
Granny would say, “Ne’er cast a clout till may be out.” Most of the hawthorn, may blossom, flowered weeks ago but some in the shade is just starting to flower.

How are you getting on with April energy usage?

Looking at the weather forecasts til the end of the month I reckon we will use 20% more this April than last April.

I am on track to match my summer gas usage.  Around 200 KwH.  Have not used any room heating since March.  Not even my blanket. (I have to use 3 a day for pilot light, bear that in mind).

Room temp is 16.4C which is way too high for me to need to use heating.

Electric is a little below average, due to less oven use this month.

Still lighting the log burner every evening, it's just a question of what time I light it depending on the weather which has been very variable here. And definitely still heating the bathroom at shower time every evening. Background heating is off - I only really use it for the coldest couple of months. Turned the bedroom heater off auto a couple of days ago, but just a question of pressing a button if it's cold on a particular morning. And the gas cabinet heater in the kitchen/dining room is alternating between loads of use one day and nothing the next.

It's this time of year that the flexibility of not having central heating really comes into it's own - it's more a question of which bits are in use on a particular day than whether the heating is on or off.
