Not been the warmest of Aprils

I have not turned my heating on, so no cost there, it has not been warm, but hardly cold either. Overall my usage should be just over £105 this month and then likely fall below £100 going forward.0

Knocked the thermostat down to 16 when we went away at Easter and I've not put it back up since. There have been a handful of days where I've done a 19 boost in the evening as there has been a chill. Currently on 151kwh for the month. April last year totalled 325kwh so yeah well finish waaaay under that.0

Only 6 oC here this am so 'er indoors won't tolerate no heating ! Heading towards a more expensive April for gas usage this year.0

Tropical ! 3 when I got up just after 8 here, up to 7 now though. Possibly below 0 tonight. The immediate forecast shows snow and looking at the sky it is quite probablebrewerdave said:Only 6 oC here this am so 'er indoors won't tolerate no heating ! Not checked the actual numbers, but its certainly felt a bit chillier to me.Heating is just doing its thing on weather compensation, with projected gas usage about 1/4 less than last April thanks to our new insulation and about 1/3 less than we used in snowy March. Higher than I'd like but with small children and me WFH there are limits to what I'll put up with. The sun has been very good to us, with generation ahead of the PVGIS prediction (lower temperatures actually help there) and the electric part of the bill projected to be about £4 net, plus another £16 in standing charge. That softens the blow from the £80 gas bill.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). There is a clear divide between those that have left the heating on (even reduced a bit) and those sted fast in having it off.
Due to the help given over winter for all households we decided to leave ours on and will look to turn it off 1st May weather allowing.

Apr 22 - gas 376 kWh, electric 258 kWh
Apr 23 to date - gas 190 kWh, electric 173 kWh with 7 days to go.
However, this year we have been on an energy saving mission with emphasis on layering up, shutting doors, turning off appliances when not in use etc.
Logburner has cut down the gas usage for better heat quality if not necessarily a huge cost saving as logs have increased in price).
Aquarium died a few weeks ago (fish were rehomed), so looking forward to that translating into an electric saving this year
.
Heating mainly off (except when grandchildren staying), so gas usage is hot water and my OH sneaking on the heating when he has a shower
Log burner is still being fired up later in the evening as using up the final dregs of this seasons logs. Should have enough for another 2 weeks - surely it will be warmer by then?0 -
I'm not going by a date, thermostat is set to 16.5C now, if it comes on in July then it's a bloody cold July and room needs heat!
I'm not going to sit here in the cold because "calendar" says I should.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Our heating is still on. If the house gets cold enough then the heating will kick in. We refuse to sit in a cold house.
We have used a bit more gas than this time last year but not a huge amount more.
Our house has almost every room having a south facing window so we usually get a fair amount of solar gain, but with the days being mostly cloudy and grey at the moment then we are not benefitting from a lot of that either.
Electric April 2022 = 212kWh
Electric April 2023 = 205kWh
Gas April 2022 = 502kWh
Gas April 2023 = 589kWh

Hadn't even occurred to me to use the central heating in April tbh. Had it on during a couple of very cold days in Feb & March but otherwise I've barely used it since Jan. No thermostat so I have to make a conscious decision to switch on and off. I have used my heated throw most days in April but that seems to make no discernable difference to my electicity usage.
Therefore I'm hoping for a target monthly usage of basically the same as summer i.e. approx 100 kWh electricity and 100 kWh gas. I haven't checked the elecricity meter since March 31st reading but had an actual gas reader knock on the door on Friday morning so know that I'd used a whole 4 metric units in the first 20 days of the month - so about 45 kWh, which is for hot water and cooking only, so well on track for gas usage.1
