Not been the warmest of Aprils

  • Our energy for the last month was 312kwh (electric) at a cost of circa £120.

We have oil for heating and water so not so easy to monitor exact usage but our thermostat is set so the heating only comes on when it drops below a certain temperature.

This coming month we will have much reduced usage of the gaming PC and I shall be using the oven around 12 hours less a month so hoping to see a difference next month

Only 6 oC  here this am  so 'er indoors won't tolerate no heating ! Heading towards a more expensive April for gas usage this year.
Tropical !  3 when I got up just after 8 here, up to 7 now though.  Possibly below 0 tonight. The immediate forecast shows snow and looking at the sky it is quite probable

And it is snowing.  Not a lot but it shouldn't be at the end of April !

Not snowing but down to 2 degrees last night. Heating is still doing its thing. Forecast is even lower with patchy frost, so we wont be shutting it off just yet

There is a clear divide between those that have left the heating on (even reduced a bit) and those sted fast in having it off.

Due to the help given over winter for all households we decided to leave ours on and will look to turn it off 1st May weather allowing.
My 2 year cheap fix ends 30th April when my night rate doubles so the living room storage heater is going off come what may.

Yesterday was a normal winter day as far as gas use is concerned.  Down to 1.7 last night and expected even colder tonight.

I haven't been out to check the thermometer yet, but we certainly have visible frost on the ground this morning - and it's persisting, so reasonably cold.

Hive reports that my heating was running for 3 hours 34 minutes yesterday, where it averaged around 2 and a half hours daily for the previous 7 days.

It seems we're seeing the benefit of the Essex climate so. A bit of condensation on one of the kids rooms windows this morning, nothing major. No frost. Beautiful sunny morning in fact. The heat was on for 4 mins yesterday and that's just because the boiler was getting serviced. I had a flick through the Hive app and it appears that our longest burst of heat this month was on the 7th and it clocked in at 32 minutes.

I wish I'd been in your bit of Essex this morning then Muckchucker! Down with us in the south west of the county it was down at zero overnight, and there was ice on the car windscreen this morning! As a result the hallway heater got shoved on for an hours "boost" first thing. Aside from a couple of times we've used that one in that way, ours have been off since the middle of the month, but it certainly has been chilly in the evenings a few times, and I used my microwavable heat pack in the bed last night as my feet were freezing. If we had thermostatically controlled heating I'd be far more inclined to let that make the call on whether heat was needed or not, it must be said - that is a luxury I'm looking forward to when we eventually manage to move!

It has been a real treat for me too @EssexHebridean since I got my Hive controlled thermostat.  The old wired-in rotating knob one we had wasn't that sensitive and it transpired that at only 4'11", I wasn't reading it right anyway and it's no wonder I was always cold - I thought it was at 18 and it was only really 16.

I love the fact that I can control mine with my phone, so can adjust it from anywhere.  I've been away a couple of times earlier this year, clearing a house and set it to 15°C to tick over whilst away and could check what it was doing anyway and how often it was on and what temperature the house was.  Then the day I came home, popped it back to the usual schedule that morning so it was warm again when I got back.  As you know, I have smart plugs and now some smart light bulbs too and I can put lights on before I come in.

Maybe I'm coming down with something but it feels fairly cold in the house today - wearing shorts probably doesn't help. I gave the Hive a boost earlier
