It's been flawless up to now, maybe it just needed a rest  :D
    Plunge pricing abuse?
Not at all, there haven't been plunges for ages and I've been without my EV for over a week.

Just likely one of those things

Is that a thing? I've not read the Agile T&Cs small print. I thought the whole purpose of cheap / negative pricing slots was to encourage people to shift use to those times?

Not even necessarily only shifting - the entire reason the pricing is negative is they need to get it used to get rid of it, hence paying people to use it.  No such thing as 'abusing' it.

I'm another one who's smart meter comms has started playing up. Since I started monitoring it last Nov it has been working pretty much faultlessly up until June, where it's suddenly started becoming very flakey. According to the various apps, I've lost about 7 days in June and so far in July I'm missing about 10 days. I emailed smart@octopus.energy and after 6 days of no reply, I phoned Octopus and they said they weren't aware of any blanket comms issue and the metering team were very busy (the excuse was people taking holidays). They assured me that the data was held in the meter so could be retrieved, but I think from the limited experience I've had of lost days, it won't be retrieved and I'll be charged at Flex rates.

So yesterday for the first time since moving over to Agile in December my electricity would have cost the same on SVT as it did on Agile except for the lower Standing Charge.  Bring on those on-shore windfarms!

I’ve read through this entire thread and am still confused about whether it’s worth swapping from 12M fix to Agile or Tracker.  I can’t get the Compare app to work.  I’m a fairly light energy user - no EV, no heat pump, just the usual (lighting, hot water, heating, tv, internet, laptop) cook a main meal around about 2 or 3 pm,  bake bread and run the dishwasher and washing machine maybe once a week.

I can easily shift usage of the dishwasher and washing machine to a cheap rate period, but the rest of the usage is going to stay pretty much the same. How can I work out what tariff is best if that Compare app won’t work?  And forgive my ignorance how can I find out what the rate is or is predicted to be at any given time?  My smart meter does tell me a rate but I have no idea whether that’s what I’m paying on my existing tariff or the rate I’d get if I changed to the cheapest tariff.

I’d really appreciate if you could help me get my head round this.  FWIW the smart meter tells me I’m spending roughly £2 a day (more like £4 a day in a cold snap).

From what you say Agile could work well work for you. If you can avoid using your big use appliances from 4:00 pm to 7:00pm which are usually very expensive and maximise cheaper periods such as 1:00pm to 4:00pm you will save money. Your online account will show you the half hourly rates for the following day from 4:00pm.

I'm coming to this from the other side (Tracker) of the forum  fence - and was more than interested to see here that others are having the same problems with Compare as I am.
From what I can recall before it went off the bleep, there was a reasonably consistent small advantage for Agile vs Tracker most times, but not enough to encourage me to alter my life style by undertaking major load shifts together with accepting the greater volatility of the former tariff. I'd like to know if anyone has done a Compare with one of the currently available fixed rate offers, and what conclusions you came to.
Gut feel tells me that there is no absolute certainty with TOU tariffs which will be cheapest in a future time period whilst Octopus are still working on crystal ball technology. More that it is a matter of balancing predicted savings of whatever magnitude against the hassle factor and attitude to risk (volatility).
