My deepest condolences Skinty, sending loads of hugs x
You're overthinking some aspects of DF's assets. Only paintings (if known artists), antiques, jewellery etc need to be valued. General items kitchen equipment, furniture, clothes, CDs etc just get lumped in for a grand or two as they don't really have any 'used value'; everything donated to B ❤️ F can be deducted as a charity donation, which in turn can help reduce IHT.
If there's any more info you want on the probate side I'm happy to help; I've not yet checked your posts on the other board.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.3 -
Morning SYA,
you're doing so well; dealing with all the different authorities and organisations must be so draining.
I confess to being a tiny bit excited when I saw mist sweeping across the fields at 6:00am today... also a tiny bit miffed that I had to put some lights on!
Sending you a very large virtual hugSAVER2 -

Looks like I may have opened a whole can of worms about dad’s house by contacting building regs / planning to see if they have any records of the loft conversion done in the 70’s. I have been seeking advice on the probate & house selling boards.Feel like I don’t want to carry on with all this. I can totally understand why people just pay a solicitor to sort it all out. 😔 Also now in a mess with insurance and how many bedrooms. Think I might just stay in bed today and bury my head in the sand. However I will put a chicken casserole in my slow cooker and I need to go and open dad’s curtains and take some photos of the washing machine as we may have a buyer. Only asking £20 if they come and collect. Need to look at how to disconnect from the water supply. It worked fine when I used it last week.Problem with the funeral bill as it doesn’t include the discount mentioned on the estimate & the funeral director is on holiday until next week. So we are waiting for him to return as it sounds like they want to withdraw the discount as it’s a lot more than they normally give and they think it’s a typo 😔

Well done with all you are doing. Sorry contacting the council has ended up giving you more stress.
Keep organising nice things for yourself in between all the hard things. It is important to do so.If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Sya, i know people are wary of contacting solicitors for legal advice but sometimes something has to give. After years of budgeting, it's easy to think there's no other way. If your dad's estate will stand it, I would engage one and hand over the matter for them to sort out. Money is nothing if it can't buy you peace of mind1
