CPS are actually owned by Goffs, although they operate independently. If you mention CPS to Goffs they will always beat their price.
In the past I've used boilerjuice.com but they are now owned by GB Oils, although I do check out their prices before ringing round. I also check out prices at theheatingoilclub.co.uk0 -
As Home Heating Oil is a close relative of Diesel Road fuel, it's possible to predict what the Ex.VAT price you should be paying for Heating Oil by looking at the lowest cost of Deisel in your area - In mine it's usually Asda
The forecourt diesel price is made up of 3 elements: The fuel/The Road Duty/The VAT
Yesterday Asda's diesel was 115.9 per litre. - Less 17.5% VAT and then Less Road Duty of 56.9p, leaves a net cost of 41.74 a litre.
And within +/- 0.5p. this the price I expect to pay for my heating oil and by quoting the results of this sum the to the 5 suppliers I always phone, I get it.
Be aware that Road Fuel Duty is an automatic escalator - On October 1st it goes up a penny to 57.19
So always check the Govt. web site at to what it is on the day you are buying oil0 -
Originally with Boiler Juice, then switched to Heating Oil who used to beat Boiler Juice by approx 5p litre and I have always had good service from them however these past few months they went to pot and were quoting nearly 10p litre more!! So few weeks back went back to the good old telephone and got 700 litres at 37p litre(Total Butler)0

East Midlands. I start watching the prices about 2 months before I think that I will order and set myself an aim not to order until it gets below a certain price(this time wanted it below 40p) Thought that I had lucked out at one point as it got to about 40.60 and I still refused to order, then the prices went up again
Perseverance paid off though and a bit of brow beating on the phone bought it down a bit more

I've been shopping around today and I've found that prices have shot up by about four pence per litre, over the last two weeks! It's never the most economical purchase, if you only buy 500 litres, much better to get 1000, if you can fit it in/afford it. Prices today ranged from 42.99p per litre to 48.50p, a huge difference and delivery times also varied wildly. One company seemed to be doing something to help us poor overcharged heating oil users, TateOil.co.uk. These guys are offering a "buy now, pay February" type deal which certainly helps to cope with the rest of the seasonal bills and gift buying!

Yes it may seem okay to get tanked up now and pay Feb, but what is their APR? I dont think it will be a free loan do you ?0 -
I am just about to move house and will be using oil fired central heating for the first time! I have found these posts very helpful, but what I would like to know, and I realise that the answers will be vague, but how long (roughly) can I expect 500 litres of oil to last? I will have 2 open fires to use (one being in the main living space). Obviously there will be certain variables which will affect times, but even a rough estimate will be helpful for budgeting. Thanks in advance!Gimme back my bank charges!!!!!0

Hi cjbaps, OK I'll have a go....
Kerosene3

9.80

For a litre of oil you should get roughly 9.8kW of heat per hour (notts energy Aug 2010 @ 90%)
the next bit depends on the size of your house
and on the efficiency of the boiler.
for example, for a four bed detached house that is well insulated, with cavity walls insulation, and good levels in the roof, with good double glazing, you could expect to use between 6 and 8 litres per day assuming 2 hours in the morning and 5 hours evening including hot water for a family of four.
500 / 6 = 84 days.
500 / 8 = 63 days.
I stand to be corrected as it has been a while since I was using oil, I now have a heat pump. There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!
