  • :confused:Its that time of the year to top up the oil tank I have been ringing around today and the best price I can get for kerosene 28 is £.3219 a litre this is for 1500 litres!!!!!! lowest price I am in the Norfolk area - has anyone else got better prices recently? Would appreciate a list of Companies if you have. Thankyou.
  • I just look at the web and then ring around local if you find a quick way please let me know
  • Join, or start, a buying syndicate. We've averaged several pence/litre off since I started one.

Today my usual supplier quoted me £.37p per litre for 1500 litres. I do have a DD with them so asked them to cancel it as I was going to order from elsewhere, without hesitation they matched the online quote I had of £.3345.

Delivery on Tuesday. We are in Hampshire.
  • I think you get squeezed twice with a DD. They have no incentive to give you their best price AND they have your money.

I live in west Wales and have just been quoted 37p plus VAT per litre (1000 or 1500 delivery). I have rung round and got 39p from a competitor! Does anyone know if this is reasonable? Are prices fairly static or on the increase?

    Cheers
  • I use cheapestoil.co.uk to check quotes before I start making enquiries. I look at the top three in the UK section then start rooting around for the best price among these. Hope this is of some use.
  • I remain convinced that the best solution is to form a syndicate and buy as a group. I did a syndicate order on Monday - I got 33.6/litre for 17,000 litres over 23 addresses. On cheapestoil.co.uk the most local to us is today quoting 43.99/litre in 500L quantities. I know a week is long time in heating oil prices so they cannot be compared directly, but group buying definitely saves money.

There is advice on starting a group at www.OilConsolidation.co.uk
  • I like oilpricecheck.co.uk for checking prices and getting advice but there is LOADS of advice on this forum :D

Some years ago I worked out there was a relationship between the price of 28sec heating oil & diesel. If you take the cheapest cost of forecourt diesel in your area, subtract the VAT which is15% at the moment, and then the road fuel duty which at present is 56.19p a litre, you end up with the net price of diesel which plus/minus 0.6 of penny, should be the price you pay for heating oil, but you will have to make several phone calls to get it
My cheapest diesel outlet is always ASDA and last week it was 103.9p. Less 15% brings it to 90.347p, then less 56.19p brings it down to 34.157p - I ordered 900 litres of heating oil at 34.7p + 5% VAT last Thursday after 4 phone calls, one of whom gave me this price when he realised I was still phoning round.
