Should the account I'm switching necessary be called a current account ? I have TSB cash account (TSB's basic bank account) and if I swicth it to one of the Natwest eligible accounts, will I get the £200 incentive ?

I don't think you would be able to get the bonus as it is a requirement to switch a current account. Basic bank accounts almost cover all the functionality (except of overdraft and maybe other functions) but technically speaking they are basic and not current accounts.

If you need a donor account, check out Metro bank for their current account. Soft search only should a hard search be of concern.

Hi I think you may be wrong about the TSB cash account not being suitable for switch as I have used Santander Basic accounts for switching in the past without any problems. I assume the TSB cash account is similar but I could be wrong.
    Cheers!!!

The cash account is a current account.
  • Yeah advice above is totally wrong. TSB cash account is a current account.
  • For those switching into existing RBS account, when does the 7 day countdown start to receive the bonus? Is it from when the switch completes or from when it’s requested? (Assuming monies paid in and app logged into on same day as requested switch)

How did you open the Santander basic account? I thought a prerequisite for a basic account with any bank was not having (nor being able to get) a current account in the first place.

From when the switch completes. Usually it's 1 to 2 working days after switch completes.

I have not had any problems opening 'Santander Everyday Current Accounts' and I have had their 123 and 123 lite accounts in the past and have an eSaver. I have several current accounts with other banks/building societies so standard criteria would apply for success in opening this account.

You can open several, but I think somebody said the limit is six. I opened two and have used them both as donors, so will be opening some more soon, if I pass their criteria.

The everyday account is very different from the basic account…
