  • Anyone on here who’ve received a switch payment in the past, managed to get one from this current campaign?

Chanced my luck by opening a select account and switching a dormant account into it, but I haven’t received the payment, despite switch completing on the 23rd.

Raised it with the chat team, who’ve confirmed I’ve completed all the steps, so can’t see the reason I’ve not received it and suggests the next step is to raise a formal complaint. I told a white lie when they asked whether I’d received a switch payment since 2017 though.

So I guess I am ineligible having received one in the past but if others are receiving them too, should I continue chancing my luck? Play ignorant? Or could it come back to bite me?
Have you completely left and then rejoined NatWest? Is your customer number the same, or new?

Asking as I switched away in 2019 after receiving a bonus, but my customer number this time around is different so I’m hoping it’ll fly under the radar.

Let us know what happens and if they pay the bonus with the new customer number. I hadn't considered re-applying to RBS, but as it's around 3 years since I switched out of them it might be worth reapplying!

I had both Natwest & RBS in 2019 and Ulster last year. Switch into RBS completed on the 23d too. No reward for me so far.

Hi.  I went through my Royal Bank statements back to when I opened account.  The above is the what they paid me first when I opened the account is 2019 and the 2nd one is what I got when I transferred back in from another bank late last year.  Anything is possible I suppose.  Good luck!

I still have the same customer number. Didn’t even think of that. Good luck to you.

Well at the moment you are only only guilty of attempted fraud. Raise that formal complaint and it would take the bank not very long to find that previous payment and the complaint would fail.

I've done a couple of switches where I knew I was not eligible under the rules but when the bonuses were not forthcoming I certainly didn't start raising complaints. At this point I have done nothing wrong since none of these switch offers ever contain a clause where you have to state if you are eligible, it's always the bank's determination and decision. It is, after all, a "bonus".

Complaining and failing would, in all likelihood, have no impact on your relationship with the bank. Only you can decide if you think it's worth the risk.

I think attempted fraud is a bit extreme, as the OP did not have to indicate any intent when they applied for the switch (I wouldn't push with the white lie though - that does fall under the definition of fraud, i.e. deception intended to result in financial gain).

FWIW I got a bonus from RBS in 2018 and went for it again a few years later (I actually thought my first switch happened in 2017 which would have been outside the ineligibility timeframe).  When I didn't receive the bonus I sent them a message (through online banking not chat).  The reply came back very quickly with the full details of my first bonus and explanation why I was not eligible again.

So TL;DR I wouldn't complain - unlikely that anything good will come out of that.

Good advice from Flaneurs. It is one thing trying your luck with getting a bonus the terms and conditions say you are not entitled to and another in complaining about it when it does not come off. Keep quiet and move on to the next offer to come up.
    Cheers!!!

Let it go. Only complain if you've followed all the T&Cs to the letter.

Ok, I’ll close it down. Deep down, It does feel like taking the mick and waste everyone’s time. Thanks all.

In the meantime, I’ll just continue filling the regular saver with spurious penny payments and hope the ulster switch payout works.
