Been reading about the superbug similar to the flu sweeping the country, schools have shut as they have so many pupils and staff off sick. Also like you I am planning to do some painting, when DH goes out with his mates for Xmas drinks. Planning on the bit between Xmas and new year. It’s the sitting room upstairs. We live in a bungalow with loft converted. Wonder how long it will be before he notices.:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.002

Afternoon all. What a wet and windy day!
In the office until lunchtime then home for the afternoon shift. Managed to avoid the worst of the rain walking to/from work. Pleased to report the new boots are indeed waterproof.
Realised Mr SA's lip balms were part of the Lid! 15% off facial skincare offer, which ends tomorrow, so have stocked up with 10 which should keep him going for a while, in theory. I have to hide them from him or he'd take them all out of their boxes, put the whole lot in his man bag and just use them randomly.
Have now qualified for the free veg item, good news that the sacks of potatoes are still on the list of included items. I'm not going to activate the offer until later in the week though as I'll need some veg on Thursday and the voucher is valid for 7 days.
The organic veg box delivery is now on hold until mid-January. I can't justify spending £16.95 of a box of veg that will be around 19p a pop shortly in various supermarkets.
I've built up enough Mr M points to claim a £50 voucher and this will pay for any extra food/drink for over the Christmas period. I don't go mad buying stuff we wouldn't normally eat, just a few buffet bits/drinks for the annual Christmas Eve buffet with DS and family. Mr SA is happy as long as he's got a bag of peanuts, he keeps reminding me not to forget them. I'm pretty certain I've already got a bag amongst my store cupboard stash from when they were on offer in Lid! a while ago.
Today's exercise has been walking to/from work. I'm doing Rick's advent challenge day 9 later followed by a live resistance bands class.
Tonight's dinner is stir fried veg with tofu and rice.

Good thinking to stock up on the lipbalms.
Will also be a good test of where he snoops when you're out if you hide them in different places 😁
Also good idea to hold off on the veg box, I can't believe how cheap they get.
Hope the supermarkets compensate the growers!https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6466032/an-in-between-phase/p1

Morning all, happy Wednesday.
WFH today so a nice slow start to the day. Did my usual live yoga class at 7.30.
Mr SA has been up to his old tricks again - already! Last night I could tell he'd had more than his usual quota of beer although he denied it. When I finally sat down to watch TV at 8 I had enough wine left in the bottle for a decent glass but hadn't poured it out. I only went in the kitchen briefly to feed the dog and when I came back I caught him about to grab the wine bottle! I asked him what he was doing and he said nothing - yeah right it looks like it! When he went to bed he staggered a bit getting up and on the stairs which more or less proved my suspicions. He still vehemently denied it this morning even though I found extra empty cans in the bin - I rest my case. I really wish he'd stop doing this. I hate doing this but I'm going to have to completely hide his beer and just leave him out his nightly quota. I might leave out a couple of empty boxes as a decoy. If he has a bad fall due to drinking then it's me, as his carer, who faces the backlash from the ambulance crew.
I've been stocking up on his beer while the good offers are on so I don't have to pay full price for it in the new year not so he can drink more!
Anyway moan over...
I've got a Mr M delivery coming later this morning so it won't be a NSD.
Midweek finance check done, cc balance cleared and an oddment of £8.49 has gone to the Christmas 2026 pot.
Today's exercise is yoga (already done), dog walking later, Rick's advent challenge day 10 and Zumba tonight.
DD is at work so will give the kitchen and bathroom a good clean while I can get in there.
I'm making a veggie lasagne for tonight's dinner.

I can't believe this - I just went into the bedroom and Mr SA was taking money out of my purse! I'm shocked as he's never done this before as far as I know. I rarely have cash on me so he wouldn't find much. He denied it at first but then said he was looking for some change. I know what he wanted the money for - not beer - it's for squirrel food. He's become obsessed with throwing nuts to the squirrels and is getting through a bag a day. The patio is a right mess with empty shells everywhere. Why didn't he just ask or take it from his own money?I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)8

This is all getting beyond a joke. The beer has always been an ongoing issue but now the money as well. SA - said with love, this is now escalating quite seriously. While at the moment you are still clearly OK to manage, it may well be that the end of that period is now approaching, I genuinely think you have to star taking steps to get him on the radar for additional care as and when needed, in case when that point is reached it arrives with more speed than you might have expected. This must be so upsetting for you too - living with someone you no longer feel you can trust has got to be a huge strain.
As for "backlash from the ambulance crew" - an absolute hard no to this. If this EVER occurs again, then you need to be incredibly clear that it is entirely inappropriate for them to be blaming YOU for things that are outside your control. Aside from anything else, this is the sort of thing that if they say that to the wrong person, it might put them off calling an ambulance in the future.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thank you all, I really appreciate your kind comments. @EssexHebridean not the last time we had an ambulance out to him as that was pneumonia and he was too unwell to drink, but a couple of times before that I was given a lecture when they could smell drink on him. One of the crew was very vocal in his opinion that we should also move to a bungalow as it was very difficult to get him down the stairs! I did respond sharply with 'yes just like that'. I will admit it's put me off calling one in future unless he's fallen on the ground level as we always seem to get the same crew. Thankfully, apart from the pneumonia incident which was May 2024, since I took over distribution of his beer quota he hasn't had a fall after drinking.
All his beer apart from tonight's quota has been hidden in an ottoman in a little cupboard off the bedroom where I keep my coats and shoes plus the ironing board. I've put some spare duvet sets on top of it so it's well and truly hidden. I would rather not have to do this though.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7 -
If that happens again with a crew SA, call them out on it at the time, and please make a formal complaint afterwards. You've summed it up - if you are concerned about calling them (in spite of the call being totally justified and the right thing to do) then there are going to be countless others who will not make that call and that could have catastrophic consequences. The Ambulance service is not there to judge, and shouldn't be doing so.
