If I remember rightly, it is means tested and you have to earn a ridiculously low amount each week in a job to get it.

I might be wrong in SA's case, but just know a lot of people don't qualify because of that.
Maybe there's some different types of allowances then, 'cause I'm sure my dad actually applied for the allowance and it was to pay for his care...which is basically my sister and a home help who does the ironing
It will most likely be attendance allowance.

I would imagine MrSA gets Disability Living Allowance at the full rate, which isn't means tested.  Pensioners, who aren't on DLA , can claim Attendance Allowance, which is to help with care, either personal or in the home.

A few of the cleaners I looked after did it as a break from caring responsibilities, and had a very strict amount they could earn, I think it was maybe 12.5 hours at minimum wage so very little indeed.

I love the plant pots on the stairs and on the boat.

Attendance allowance like PIP is not means tested but you have to be over pension age. PIP cannot be claimed by those over pension age. It used to be under Disability Liveing Allowance that would continue when pension age was reached but I dont know the latest rules for PIP. AA does not have a mobility component like PIP but there are 2 rates depending on the level of care needed.
    .
Carers allowance is for people who provide care for at least 35hhours pw and earn under £196 pw after tax and NI. There are other things that can be discounted from earnings but it can be complicated. The government website is quite helpful. If you are over pension age the same rules on earnings apply so anyone that gets a full pension wouldnt be eligible.

I earn too much to get carers allowance. It’s a ridiculously small amount you need to earn to qualify. I used to get a carers assessment once a year and a one off payment of £150 to treat myself. That went down to £100 and now it’s nothing and no assessment 😞 Unpaid carers save the state a fortune.
What my dad claims then, must be something different.  I know it was supposed to help pay for his care. no idea how much it is
I think that would be attendance allowance which ( as far as I aware) is not means tested.

Attendance allowance? You have to be over state pension age and Mr SA is just 60. Carers allowance is means tested

It is quite disappointing how little help and support seems to be available for people in SA's situation.

It certainly can't be easy holding down a full time job and being a full time carer as well.

Anyway hope you are having another trouble and stress free day in the sunshine SA.

I did see the report about tourists not being welcome and I wondered if you would have problems but glad to hear you havent. The media has a lot to answer for.
