How come you do not qualify for carers allowance then? My sister gets it for looking after my dad and she doesn't have to do half as much as you do for Mr SA. Is it because you are married to him? If so, then I think the system is incredibly unfair.

If I remember rightly, it is means tested and you have to earn a ridiculously low amount each week in a job to get it.
I might be wrong in SA's case, but just know a lot of people don't qualify because of that.September 2017 Debt = £25330

Maybe there's some different types of allowances then, 'cause I'm sure my dad actually applied for the allowance and it was to pay for his care...which is basically my sister and a home help who does the ironingWillowtree222 said:If I remember rightly, it is means tested and you have to earn a ridiculously low amount each week in a job to get it.

I earn too much to get carers allowance. It’s a ridiculously small amount you need to earn to qualify. I used to get a carers assessment once a year and a one off payment of £150 to treat myself. That went down to £100 and now it’s nothing and no assessment 😞 Unpaid carers save the state a fortune.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

I’m lucky in that I still manage to hold down a fairly responsible full time job and still care for Mr SA. That’s entirely down to how flexible my employer is, it wouldn’t work otherwise.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5

What my dad claims then, must be something different. I know it was supposed to help pay for his care. no idea how much it isSun_Addict said:I earn too much to get carers allowance. I think this would be attendance allowance which ( as far as I aware) is not means tested.Makingabobor2 said:

I also think there are 2 rates for day or night care.
