Thanks to @badmemory I've looked into the loft insulation grant and completed the form on Gov.UK which has gone to Octopus. I'm not expecting to be eligible as I suspect I earn too much and no one in the house is on income related benefits. But worth a try anyway. The form did say I would have to pay something towards it. That's if it needs doing. There was mention of adequate ventilation will be required before installation and you can bet your bottom dollar that we won't have this and it will open up an expensive can of worms! Anyway let's see what comes of it.
I've decided I'm going to make sure the mortgage is gone by the end of the year rather than early 2026. I tried to up the monthly overpayment by the £33 a month extra required to see it off, got to the end of the process and it said an error had occurred please try again later 😐 However, I did notice that I can pay off up to £4k a year extra and between now and June I can pay off another £3200 then it will reset. So the plan is to send one-off overpayments at the end of every month although it won't be as much as £3200 😆 Quite exciting to think it will be gone before the end of this year! It will give me an incentive to work towards. The initial target will be £50 extra overpayment a month with a view to it being more if possible.
In other money news it's the last few days of the 4 week budget period and it looks as though there'll be a decent underspend despite all the extra food/drink bought for Christmas. The grocery budget is overspent by not by as much as I thought.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)12 -

I agree there is nothing quite like that "it's all mine" feeling. Mine was over 20 years ago (I'm that old) & I still remember walking into the building society with that final cheque. Two months later I bought out the chief rent.
