Our combined washer/drier is about 15 years old and the spin cycle sounds like an aircraft taking off - but it's been a loyal servant! From memory it's 9kg capacity for washing but only 6kg for drying. The drying often needs extra time but that may be because I put it on for as little as I think I can get away with.

SA, I hope you don't mind me saying but I had wondered whether Mr SA had become more sensitive to sound since he was ill. I find it interesting that the same set of ears seems to perform more efficiently but perhaps it's more about his responses changing. Also he's in the house not at work so he must have got accustomed to less noise. It's interesting that his senses of smell is affected too. The brain is endlessly amazing.

Years ago I replaced my washing machine with a washer dryer, was not happy with the dryer, it took ages.  Resulted in me using the washer only and drying in my old tumble dryer, much quicker…..they may have improved since then, good that you are reviewing before buying

I am leaning towards a separate condenser drier.  But I won't let it do what my friend does & let it fill so full of water that it leaks all over the floor.  Whilst I don't like wearing shoes I also don't like wet feet!

Look at heat pump dryers; yes they take longer but far better for your clothes and definitely much better for your bills

I had a combined washer/dryer and it wasn't great.  This was many years ago so they may have improved, but the different capacities were also a PITA.

  • I've got a washer dryer and my clothes just come out wet and steaming. I've ended up buying a separate dryer and put it in the garage.

It might just be the one I have but I've had two and both were the same. X

I have used a combined washer dryer and agree with others that they are less reliable but living in a small place in London with no garage I have nowhere for a separate dryer. I also used a rental place for a year recently which had a separate dryer so objectively can confirm a separate one seemed more effective and quicker to dry. Mind you picking out the fluff each time is a pita. The thing I have the dryer function for is towels, I could live without the drying function apart from that and just use an indoor (Unheated) airer. I went for a new bloke who hummed Good Housekeeing best buy a few months ago and would be happy to recommend that one. As others have said one surprise can be the smaller capacity, even just for some washes. My last one was terrible, the company who rhymes with cosh. It had a teeny Synthetics wash capacity and also magnetic bearings. I'd definitely avoid magnetic bearings in future, they went wrong and also made a terrible grindy-squeaky noise. Still having fluffier towels is worth it.
  • We just replaced our washer dryer. The old one was pretty bad at drying and we’d have to redo it several times and it never came out completely dry. The new one is a revelation! I think the old one must have been packing up for a long time as now they come out bone dry and perfect. It’s just as good as a separate dryer ever could be. We did pay more for a large capacity one though and it will wash and dry plenty. I have no idea of the weight of anything I am washing or drying though to be honest, I just ram it all in and away we go 😅 The new one is LG and I love it! I don’t have room for a separate dryer so I’m very pleased they’ve got their act together with this one.

That's Monday almost done. Worked in the office this morning and came home at lunchtime to finish up.

Walked to/from work and didn't get caught in any rain which is good. Stopped off at Lid! on the way home and picked up the free rice and some reduced price steaks for Mr SA.

Did my usual Monday check of finances, paid off cc balance and paid an oddment of £5.91 to the Christmas pot. DD paid her board on Friday so that's gone to the holiday pot.

Booked a nail appointment for next Tuesday.

Today's exercise has been the walking to/from work and I've scheduled in another FitOn stretching class for 5.30.

I'm making a batch of plant based mince ragu tonight, having some with spaghetti and will freeze the rest.
