Forgot to say, thank you for all the comments on tumble dryers. It's good to hear about other people's experiences.

  • We've always had a washer drier and I have to say we've not been displeased with ours - the first one was the one that was in our flat when we rented - the landlord was selling up after we moved out so it was one of several things he said we could take. that was an Indesit and must have lasted over 10 years. The current one is Hotpoint and is just under 10 years old now - although it has reached the stage of "very loud on the spin" so its days are numbered! I rarely bother taking much notice of the difference in capacity but then I don't dry that often either - it only really gets used for towels and bedding, and I just usually give those a blast of either 30 minutes or an hour then finish them on the airer.

As and when this one fails we will replace with another one I think - although we do now have space for a separate washer and dryer, we are also currently using that space for storage and would miss that if we filled it up!

  • I've had a washer/ dryer for over twenty years ever since I moved into my flat which has a very small kitchen. My first was an Indesit and like @EssexHebridean's, lasted over ten years. My next was a Hotpoint too and lasted about six. I only ever use washer/dryers for towels and tea towels and both the former were very good and got everything completely dry. My next was another Hotpoint but this later version would never get things completely dry and so things get finished on the clothes horse. When I got my kitchen revamped I went for an integrated Zanussi (discounted through Howdens who supplied the kitchen) and this is exactly the same and never drys completely. I'd still get a washer dryer though when this one fails as the thought of completely wet towels to dry feels me with dread as I have no outside drying space. ☹️

I've never owned a tumble drier. Never felt the need for one. I've mostly lived in places where I could peg out & use free sunshine & breeze & there are just the two of us so I have never had to get school uniforms, sports kit or any extra loads of bedding dry. I get on really well with our heated airer & a good dehumidifyer. Having said that, if I was regularly having to do lots of extra laundry as you do, @Sun_Addict, because of your carer role, I think I'd be tempted to buy one. With working full time, the additional time needed to walk everywhere because you don't drive & caring responsibilities, I can see that this would be a useful purchase for you. There must be some good deals out there somewhere!

I've made that sweet potato and lime stew, SA, probably on your recommendation, and it's really nice.

Interviews online take me back to training online during the pandemic: people's cats, dogs, children and aged parents often seemed to feature and were sometimes amusing! Perhaps Mr SA will relax the candidates? However, I'm sure he won't relax you so I hope he stays away!

Eek! Just what you don't need. Might be time to take the fuse out of that drill...

Of course you could sell the gist of certain life episodes as TV episodes - writers want ideas, don't they?
