The lunchtime interview pulled out so I managed to do the stretch & tone class after all.
While the other interviews were taking place, Mr SA didn't shuffle past but DD did! To be fair to her I didn't tell her I was interviewing so she had no idea. I had blurred my camera so they would've just seen a shape passing.
The quote is in for the dining room and it's less than I thought so I've said yes to that as well. He's given me a date in 2 weeks time for DD's room but I've told him there's no rush for the dining room. I want to recover from the upheaval of DD's room refurb first I think. There are still other things to pay for like painting both rooms, a skip (already getting excited about the prospect of a skip 😆) and flooring for DD's room (although she only wants vinyl so won't be expensive). I also want to replace the large dining room table with a small one as no one sits at it, I just use it as an extension of my desk. While the painter is here I'd quite like him to paint the bathroom as well. It will be brilliant to get it all done and there should still be a decent chunk left to send to the emergency fund.
Already have in mind what I want doing with next year's savings pots - new loft hatch, ladders and possible insulation. I want to get as much done as I can before I retire.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7 -
Love your answer SA , great you are getting all your jobs done .Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.2

Good for you SA - getting the household jobs done before you retire is the way forward. I didn't do that much in the lead up to my retirement as I thought I would be moving. I decided to stay where I was in the end and of course now there's things I would like done but I hate all the upheaval so have been putting my head in the sand which I have now pulled out a bit. Have plumber coming tomorrow to talk about removing bath and putting in full shower. Oh the dust!🫣

Both jobs are now being done the same week 😱 Goodness knows where I’m going to put everything as will have to empty 2 rooms. Mr SA is going to be a nightmare as he doesn’t like change or upheaval. DD will have to move into the living room and the dining room stuff is going to have to go goodness knows where.Mr SA has spent all of today rounding up all his old drills from the shed. He’s found 3 none of which work so, you’ve guessed it, he wants a new one. I wouldn’t mind but he never uses them. He reckons I’m destroying his manhood by saying he doesn’t need one. A man isn’t a real man without tools apparently 🤣I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5

He should probably have a go at repairing one of the existing ones first SA, surely that's what a real man would do? (No - I don't think he will be able to either, but it might keep him quiet for a bit?!)🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

@Sun_Addict - I've got the exact opposite problem! Our only electric drill was a casualty of the repeated shed floods a few years ago. I have been on & on at Mr F for ages to buy a new one....whichever one he wants within reason, & he just keeps saying he 'hasn't done any research yet'. I think I'm going to have to come up with a job which requires about 357 holes drilling, in order to force the issue. If it was some kind of la-di-dah fancypants cable for a piece of tech, he'd be on it like the proverbial bonnet! The drowned drill was originally mine & I have thought about simply buying a new one myself, but as he does most of the drilling these days, as it often tends to be up ladders, I concluded that it's better for him to choose.

Definitely don't pay for works on your home *and* let Mr SA near a drill! In fact, given he managed to blow the electrics with a screwdriver, don't let him near a drill at all... He's got enough manly tape measure jobs he can do since you're incapable what with your lady hands3

Good idea to get home improvements done before you retire. I wish we had been able to do that. We are now facing a lot of upheaval when I receive my inheritance.
