Main question on Mr S A coming home is - is he fully mobile and can he cope with stairs unassisted? If they are hesitant about either of those things, then it may need to be made very clear to them that sending him home with be compromising both his and your safety. (It may also delay things if you were "unable" to get there with clothes and to accompany him home, of course...)

I agree that it sounds very soon for him to be coming home.
Before discharge you will need to know - what are the results of his various tests?  What is his plan to re-mobilise him eg physio's assessment.  What medication?  What monitoring and following up.  Ask the doctor who is discharging what effect MrSA's other health conditions have had on the discharge plan and package.  You might not to be assertive but it's better for him, you, emergency services  and the hospital not to have another emergency admission.

I quite agree EH. When I had pneumonia I really struggled to get up the stairs & that was without any brain injury problems. You don't want to be having to ring an ambulance again SA, if he falls again. Or the extra work that it will entail, if he keeps having " accidents".

I hope the hospitals make the right decision for both of them (and for you!) and don't rush to discharge before they should.

@Sun_Addict - That was what was worrying me, that in wanting to be let out asap, Mr SA might embellish his mobility skills, including stair climbing. They defo need to know that he has falls on a normal day with no breathing problems to throw into the mix. Hope the right decisions are made.

Well done for telling them the truth. He needs to be safe and well enough to come home.

I knew it, the crafty devil! Good job the nurse checked with you, @Sun_Addict. The hospital set of 'practise stairs' will doubtless be coming out now.

Oh my word. Good job they called to confirm it. I think if he was desperate to get to the bathroom & with not being able to breathe so well/coughing a lot....well its just a recipe for disaster.
