We have to buy new herbs every year. I don't think where we grow them is ideal. They are in black pots on the garage wall in full sun all day. You just can't water them enough to cope with the heat they get from the sun.3

The rain stopped for a while from around 11am for a couple of hours so we got to take the dog out. The park is absolutely waterlogged and there are puddles on top of the grass. The dog had a great time paddling. There's a lot of flooding being reported locally especially in the surrounding villages closer to the river.
I received another sample box from TryIt, this time it's a pack of dried cat food. A couple of weeks ago it was dog dental chews. Apparently I've been selected for a mini campaign by pet food manufacturers.
It's the time of year when the direct debits start going up. A couple of weeks ago it was the water rates, today it's Denplan's turn. Only up by £1.50 a month but still a rise. I guess the council tax will be next.

A couple of years ago I read that basil must be bottom watered and have done far better with it since. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I always grow basil in the greenhouse where it does well planted in front of & around the indoor tomatoes. I sow it every year though, as it is an annual.

Morning all, happy Friday 😁
I'm in the office today. It's really quiet at the moment but then Fridays and Mondays usually are. I'm going to finish early, rarely do a full day on Fridays.
I managed to pick up the free coffee from Gr£ggs using the 0ct0pus code. This time I made sure to ask for a regular coffee and it worked. Last time I asked for a large coffee because the time before they gave me a large coffee and that's why the code didn't work, it's for a regular one only. It's not the best coffee but it's ok.
It's a beautiful sunny morning so hopefully will stay dry and it's so nice to walk to work in the light after what seems like months of dark mornings.
It won't be a NSD as I need to pick up some things from Lid! on the way home.
Today's exercise is walking to/from work. Tonight's dinner is a spicy beanburger from freezer stocks with sweet potato wedges and salad. I'm not too keen on these burgers so forcing myself to use them up. The next couple of weeks are going to be all about using up things from the freezer that have been hanging about for a while.
Read something very interesting this morning on a FB group I'm part of for survivors and carers of the type of brain tumour Mr SA had. Several people have reported their OHs having permanent brain damage leaving them unable to cope with things like emails and finances and doing very little other than sit watching TV all day. One woman said her OH used to be a software developer for Am@zon and can no longer even think how to send an email. Unfortunately some said their OHs had started to develop Alzheimer's which is a worry as apparently this is quite common.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)10 -
I can see that would be worrying, @Sun_Addict, but remember it's still not going to apply to everyone and even if it does, it may not be for a long time yet. I think dementia is something a lot of us are concerned about, but if it comes to it, there is support... and it may never apply to Mr SA.
It must be helpful to be able to discuss how the tumour has affected other people, though, and realise that there are traits that may seem to be things he chooses but are in fact the result of brain damage. However much we here support you, for most of us it's outside our experience, but other families who are affected and have lived experience can give relevant insights.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Thanks @Cherryfudge, it’s a relief to know the things he does are normal for those who’ve had this type of disease. I still think his demise will be the result of a careless fall rather than the disease coming back or dementia. It’s such a rare disease that there aren’t many stats for it. Most people don’t survive as long as Mr SA after treatment he’s very lucky. The longest survivor passed 25 years after treatment. Those that have fared better than Mr SA and more or less gone back to normal seem to relapse quite quickly.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5

I feel context is huge in coming to terms with life-changing event - just being able to speak to peers makes all the difference.
I see what you mean about Mr SA's risk from falls. He had the tumour once, but falls relatively often. We can't tell, though, and obviously you do what you can to keep him safe which lowers his risk. The statistic about 25 years might also already be out of date, as in, there are people alive now who may well pass that point: any advances in treatment and general health care, age of the person concerned, individual experience, all sorts of things can come into play.
I would imagine you are often in a position to support others on the group, as you could probably write the book on lived experience now.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
