I worked in a care home and every February our boss had to waste money on stuff we didn't need to use the budget or for the next year it would be cut and we wouldn't be able to get things we did need. I am not thinking that a huge build up should happen but money should be allowed to be ring fenced for say 12months. I worked with people who often damaged things either accidentally or deliberately and it would have been much easier if we had some leeway.

  • The elderly folk may well not be retired these days SA - or could be taking on a childcare role during the week. I do sympathise thought - it’s one thing I love about shopping on a Friday as a rule, it’s usually fairly quiet!

I confess I went to the sm this morning! In my defence it was only for some milk and I was in and out pretty quickly. I actually had to pick up my prescription and get something for Mr LH that he needed for today.

My mum struggled to walk as far as the supermarket so used to wait for us to take her on a Saturday.

I’m talking about very elderly people 80 plus with walking frames on their own or as a couple and getting a fair bit of shopping not just the odd thing.  Great for them they’re getting out but why not go when it’s quiet. I have an elderly neighbour whose grandson takes her there on Saturdays and I understand that reasoning.

  • a lot of elderly people I know, their week is taken up with hospital appointments, social clubs, day centres etc.

  • It is frustrating I know when you are working all week to see elderly people shopping Saturdays but some rely on family to drive them there and they can only do that weekends. If they are on frames they will have needed someone to bring them.
