I guess because there are 3 adults in the household it's not cost-effective to instal a water meter? What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0

I'm still waiting for my water bill. I'm on a meter but there's only me. I'm still paying the same amount as I was when DD lived here simply because I had to wait for three months then give them a reading before they would re bill me. I didn't bother giving them the reading and kept the payment the same as I reasoned I would hopefully build up some credit. I was hoping mine would go down but with the increases I will be happy if it stays the same. I won't be happy if it goes up

Please give them a reading now as if you don't make savings then within 2 years they are supposed to allow you to go back to non metered. With only you in residence you SHOULD have made significant savings. If not you should be figuring out why.

That’s another working week done. Had a really busy day at work as it’s use it or lose it spend your budget time. Everything has had to come through me so I’ve spent a lot of work’s money today. I have also been let loose with the key for the stationery cupboard so grabbed 3 notepads - for work use only though, they’re functional rather than pretty 😆 When I used to work in an estate agents many years ago this was the time of year housing associations and councils would be buying up our cheaper houses.
Had a lovely catch up with work friends at lunchtime but regret buying my lunch in the work cafe it wasn’t great, cold pasta salad and the pasta was all stuck together in a cold clump 🤢Couldn’t see anything in MnS to spend my voucher on so will look online tomorrow or wait until nearer the holiday. I wasn’t really in a shopping mood though. It has been so much warmer here today. I didn’t need my gloves and had to take my scarf off walking into work. Yesterday it was 1 degree and today 11!Steps total for the day is 24,488 so think I’ve earned a glass of wine with my feet up. I’m shattered so it won’t be a late night (not that it ever is 😆)I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7 -
Love reading your step count each day. Makes me feel bad not doing enough. Seem to have lapsed again lately. Going to try harder to get back up again.

I really hate the use it or lose budget system. In my experience much of the money is spent very unwisely leaving nothing for bigger projects whereas if it could be carried over those things would become affordable.3

I don't know about the wider picture, @ladyholly, but I was once appointed to a post which I've always been convinced was in order to keep the funding. It would have been in the early part of the year. I was supposed to be leading a small team, which was never recruited, based at a location that was never acquired. At the end of the year I inherited someone else's team and location, after a long time spent as backup for anyone who needed it. Surely they would have been better banking the money or (more likely) using it to appoint relief or temporary staff?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

I once (as usual a long time ago) worked for a charity that had to give budgets for funding. The year I did it I got a big pat on the back because I thought of something that hadn't been done before. Simple really, when applying for budgets for workmen (carpenters etc, big house an awful lot of work needed) I included in the budget paid holidays which should have been included for several years before. They had been having to pay holiday pay that wasn't actually in the budget, so when one left evertually they hadn't been able to get someone else because the money wasn't there. I confess it took me a while to figure out why the proverbial was hitting the fan. Even though my watch would be over as 6 months only allowed I wasn't going to let my watch be responsible for anything like that happening. But it is all about allowed budgets & a use it or lose it system. MSE in action really.
