Here's hoping for a quieter day for you today................even if it does involve work!
  • I agree with @ladyholly there. My dad had this problem for while, with falling at night when getting up. So he now always sits on side of bed for a bit, and was told to always sit on the toilet and not stand. Also keeps a walker by the side of the bed in case he is desperate and hasn't time to sit for a while, at least that way he has something to lean on and lessen the chance of falling

Mr SA uses a urinal during the night that he keeps by the bed as there's no way he'd make it on time. The times he's fallen in the shower are when he's had an upset tummy and tried to clean himself up. The fall on Sunday he was cleaning his teeth and tripped on the bathroom mat that DD had left on the floor. There's no set pattern to it but his main issue is balance.

The dog was going mad to go on the park so I took her after I had my lunch. Mr SA didn't feel up to coming with us. It was raining and quite windy so wasn't the most pleasant experience. The park is like a swamp again now it's warmed up a bit. Anyway the dog is happy now she's got it out of her system although she keeps bringing me her squeaky Christmas cracker toy 😆

Don’t envy you taking the dog out in this rain. It’s been horrendous here all day. Not let up once yet.
It probably did Mr SA good to stay in and chill rather than venture out in it.

My mum has balance problems and had a number of falls a few years ago. Going to the toilet and, strangely, passing through doorways were the common themes. No falls since she learnt to get up more slowly and use her walkers religiously. It did take a 3rd party medical person to convince her she could help herself. She struggles with advice from me as her chief caretaker, she really doesn't like me being right lol.

I hope you get some tips and advice that Mr SA is willing to follow. A good plain speaking occupational therapist has been very helpful for us. Its not easy to find the 'plain speakers' these days with everything being about patient choice rather 'do it or else'.

Mr SA is terrible at taking advice from anyone especially me! He was like this pre brain injury and it’s one part of him that hasn’t changed although he doesn’t fly off the handle like he used to thank goodness.
