Afternoon all.
Thankfully in a much better frame of mind today although I got up at 4.15 due to needing the loo and no point going back to bed when the alarm goes off at 4.30. It meant I had quite a relaxing start to the day though.
Worked in the office until just after lunchtime, finishing up at home. I had a Mr M delivery due between 1.30 and 2.30 but it had already arrived when I got home just before 1.30. Thankfully it was only a small order and Mr SA was aware it was due.
The tree surgeon arrived on time last night. He's going to quote for a straightforward tidy up of the tree, removing about a third of the height and a big branch that's gone a bit wayward. He will also supply a quote if he did a really good tidy up of the tree removing all the dead wood underneath but that would add around £250 to the price and he doesn't really think it's necessary just cosmetic. He's also going to quote for the removal of some conifers behind the shed and greenhouse, also trimming some height from the holly tree. He asked me what my budget was but I don't have one really as I've no idea how much it will be. I know it won't be cheap. When I think about having a job done I just tend to get the quote and see if it's affordable. We had a few trees removed 2/3 years ago and that was £600 so I'm expecting this to be more.
The garden storage box arrived yesterday so that needs putting together.
To do list:
- Put garden storage box together (pencilled in for tomorrow)
- Phone customer services about the jet washer (pencilled in for tomorrow)
- Sort out stuff for Vintage CC. The pre-paid label is only valid for 21 days. Need to source a box.
- Sort out Senior Railcard - I need a new photo to send with the application.
- Touch up paint behind Mr SA's chair where he's scraped it off by having the chair too close to the wall.
- Carry on decluttering the boxes from the understairs cupboard now I have some smaller storage boxes ready to go into the loft.
- Plant seeds - waiting until we get back from holiday.
- Order Euros for holiday (next week)
- Book taxis for holiday (next week)
- Somehow find time to take Mr SA holiday clothes shopping (either this Saturday or next depending on visit from DS and the GKs).
- Paint garden bench with paint purchased last weekend.
- Buy some new seat pads for garden bench.
- Paint pallet with the bright pink paint I bought last year - I had a flash of inspiration of filling it with brightly coloured planters once painted.
I think that's enough to be going on with!
Today's exercise has been walking to/from work 20,379 steps and a live resistance bands class tonight.
Tonight's dinner is leftover gunpowder cauliflower and lentil curry from Sunday. Realised last night I have a bit of a theme going on with my recent dinners what with the gunpowder cauliflower and last night's bang bang salmon 🤣

Sounds very positive with tree surgeon, hopefully it'll all come in as affordable. Will be lovely to have the light for summer

Morning all, happy hump day.
WFH today. Got up at 4.30 as the young cat was playing football in the hallway with a jingly ball 😐
Had a very relaxing start to the day with two coffees. I very rarely have two coffees but I had plenty of time and felt I needed the caffeine.
I've had the quote for the trees £972 for an overhaul of the very large tree, removal of 4 conifers and trimming the holly tree. I think that's very reasonable. The most expensive bit is the conifer removal at the bottom of the garden, I thought it would've been the big tree as it's as tall as the house. Mr SA thinks it's a lot but he's very out of touch with prices these days. I was expecting it to be over £1k to be honest. I have enough in the house/garden master pot but thought it would be good use of the gold money. We still need a new shed and some painting work doing. I'd also like to replace the dishwasher and possibly the fridge freezer this year so would like to get the kitchen painted first. The dishwasher is quite old and has been on its last legs for some time. The fridge freezer isn't that old but it's too small and not that great.
Mid-week finance check has been done, cc balance cleared and an oddment of £6.45 has gone to the Christmas pot.
I'm going to make a big batch of root veg casserole in the slow cooker today and bag up leftovers for the freezer. The bags won't take up as much room as the boxes I currently use. I've got some re-usable freezer bags for this purpose. So tonight's dinner will be a portion of said casserole with veggie sausages from freezer stocks.
Today's exercise plan is yoga, dog walking, strength training and Zumba.
DD is at work today so will give the bathroom a good clean.
Going to finally contact the jet washer customer services and put the garden storage box together so at least two things are ticked off my to do list. Also need to carry on decluttering the boxes from the understairs cupboard and sort out what I'm sending to VCC.
I made a start on sorting out the old photos last night and am shredding any that are repetitive or not very good. They're all going into labelled plastic wallets before being put into the storage boxes so it's a task and a half that I'm chipping away at.

Having had a lot of tree work done recently, that quote sounds very reasonable - particularly as fuel costs have gone up since mine were last done and that's going to have a significant impact on the cost of running all that machinery!

I think that’s a good price.

I'd be happy with that price for the scope of the work, especially since he sounded decent in talking about what was necessary and what was cosmetic
