I’m so sorry this is happening. When I had the threat of redundancy it came with threats…you had to sign a document to receive the decent payout, that stated you wouldn’t take them to tribunal or fight back. It’s so awful as, even though you could win a tribunal for unfair dismissal (especially if you can prove your work is still being done) they make sure you have no money to fight them with. It’s always stacked against the little guy 😖 it’s certainly given me a new appreciation of just working my allotted hours as you get no thanks or benefit to going all out. Are you able to negotiate on the pay out or be moved to a new department? Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

I feel a bit more positive today thankfully. I saw a couple of jobs advertised that I'd be interested in later down the line if similar comes up, and it reminded me of a few more organisations that I could keep an eye on. I am also considering whether I might consider commuting so as to stay in my industry. That would depend on the job, location and pay!
I've had a look at the financials and considered what I need to earn as a minimum, and how long my payout might be able to last if I need to use it to top up various amounts. The thought of taking a month or so out is appealing as well.
I'm sure my emotions will be up and down like a yoyo, and it will be very interesting to see all the details when they are published."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee5 -
I don't know when my leaving date is likely but it's not going to be any later than end March. Does anyone know if they calculate redundancy pay on the date that it is announced or the date you actually leave? It would be nice if it was after my birthday so I'd get a little more. I'm likely to be told for certain in January, and then I'd need to work my notice. My birthday is in February so mid way between the two.
In the meantime I'm focussing back on my finances. I want to be in the absolute best position I can be in, so I need to get back to surveys and have a look around if there's anything I can sell. I've just withdrawn £30 from TCB so will either pad that or use it towards birthday/xmas gifts. Getting the bathroom done has mostly diminished my savings but at least it's done. The boiler is done too along with the electrics, so that's three of the big jobs that I shouldn't have to worry about any time soon. That's one good thing! I'll paint the bathroom myself in the short term, just so it's finished and we can get the towel rail put back on before the winter. If it needs a professional redo then that can wait until things are more settled. I'm also glad MOT and service are done for the year, but I'll still try and get the windscreen done.
