A friend did turn up at bingo the other day with £20 in £2 coins which was a nice surprise. Obviously, I took them (well it would be rude not to) and they have gone in the pot, but that's pretty much all I've had this month. Even the corner shop seems to have stopped keeping them in the till.£2 coin savings club 2025 #1 £166 (2024 £692; 2023 £754; 2022 £472; 2021 £256; 2020 £358; 2019 £512; 2018 £404; 2017 640)Saving for Xmas 202 £1 a day #4 £365 / £365 3-6 month emergency fund challenge #48 £10,030 Save a penny a day 2024 #32 £ . / £667.95 £1000 emergency fund challenge #232 £1,007/ £1,000 (achieved Nov 2020)0 -
Well, we seem to be half way through October already. Time is absolutely flying by. I've had a slow month collecting those lovely £2 coins. They just don't seem to be anywhere lately. September was good, but October is definitely not being kind to my saving's pot.
Mum is still waiting to exchange contracts on her bungalow so that she can move to the retirement flat. It was supposed to be Friday before last, but there was still one thing outstanding from the flat's owners. Exchange could happen tomorrow so it's just a case of agreeing the completion date which could be 20th or 27th. Moving dates aside, we are very nearly at the finishing line and mum can't wait to move. I think there comes a point when you mentally move out of your home - or maybe it's being surrounded by all the boxes you've packed ready that makes you do that
It's bingo tonight but this afternoon, we have a fun dog show to attend with our cocker spaniel, Bracken. All for a good cause so we will have to see whether we come home with any rosettes. Definitely entering her for waggiest tail, most beautiful eyes and, of course, prettiest girl but there could be many more classes that will see her in the ring. Attendance at these events is always excellent - and of course there are those who attend that are more professional than others - but for us, it's a fun afternoon and Bracken gets to interact with lots of other dogs that she doesn't see at her Wednesday evening dog class.
Talking of which, I'm being stared at - must be time for her breakfast!

Have you had a definite date for your mum to move yet? She must be so excited, but also fed up, I know I was when I was waiting for completion day!
How did Braken get on at the dog show? Did she win any rosettes?£2 Saving Club 2024 #3 £12.001 -
Got the move date confirmed just before 5pm today. Exchange on Thursday afternoon and completion on 27th
. I've now booked 26th and 27th off work, and all the following week as need to get everything unpacked and find homes for everything.
Bracken did very well at the fun dog show. 3 x 1sts (best long coated, best girl under 15" and best multi-coloured), 2 x 2nd's (prettiest girl and the dog the judge would most like to take home) and 1 x 3rd in waggiest tail. She slept like a log Sunday evening whilst I was out at bingo!
Talking of bingo, I'd better grab my lucky pens. Did rather well on Sunday so this will be a free night!£2 coin savings club 2025 #1 £166 (2024 £692; 2023 £754; 2022 £472; 2021 £256; 2020 £358; 2019 £512; 2018 £404; 2017 640)Saving for Xmas 202 £1 a day #4 £365 / £365 3-6 month emergency fund challenge #48 £10,030 Save a penny a day 2024 #32 £ . / £667.95 £1000 emergency fund challenge #232 £1,007/ £1,000 (achieved Nov 2020)1 -
Morning everyone.
I hope everyone is staying safe during this shocking weather?
I think this could be my first post on here.
Even though I pay by cash for pretty much everything, £2 coins have been scarce this year.
I had a good run in August and September and got about £20, but since then nothing. So I'll be amazed if I make £50 this year.
When is totalling up day please?SPC 0370 -
Hi madlyn, totalling up day is New Year's Eve, but it can be any time that you want, particularly if you want to use the money for the festive season.£2 coin savings club 2025 #1 £166 (2024 £692; 2023 £754; 2022 £472; 2021 £256; 2020 £358; 2019 £512; 2018 £404; 2017 640)Saving for Xmas 202 £1 a day #4 £365 / £365 3-6 month emergency fund challenge #48 £10,030 Save a penny a day 2024 #32 £ . / £667.95 £1000 emergency fund challenge #232 £1,007/ £1,000 (achieved Nov 2020)1

Mum is now settled into her new flat - and loving life again. A totally different person from when she was in the bungalow on her own. Now, its coffee morning morning on Wednesdays, shopping on Thursdays (door to door minibus), keep fit class Wednesdays before daily afternoon tea meet up in the lounge, hot pasty delivery every other Thursday (alternating with fish and chips!) and then on Sundays, there's a Sunday roast delivery from one of the local pubs
. To say she now has a pretty full social calendar is a bit of an understatement. Mum has only been there 4 weeks and she's already paid for the Christmas meal out.
In that four weeks, we've unpacked about 75% of the boxes. Carpets have been cleaned professionally, and painter/decorator is coming in next week to make a start on the paintwork. Electrical items (cooker, hob etc) have been checked that they are compatible with her pacemaker, so mum can now use them. Blinds are next on the list once the painting is done.
As for my £2 coin saving, I've had a pretty good session collecting at my bingo nights which has seen me obtain £96 over the last 4 weeks (the lady selling the raffle tickets had saved £20 in a money bag for me from her own money which helped my total). Banking for the local scout group (I'm the treasurer) has brought in another £16, and petty cash at work found another one. So, all in all, it's been a fabulous 4 weeks (if a little busy!). Seems that MrT has run out of them, as has the discount store in town which almost always guaranteed 2 x £2 coins in your change from a £5 note when one item is purchased.
I'm really looking forward to banking all my lovely coins - we've got just over 1 month to go - can't wait! The lad in the post office has kindly provided me with lots of money bags so that I can bag it all up. Interesting Nellie75 that your bank only takes 5 bags at a time but at least you know about it. My nearest banking station is our local post office, and I always use them (saves me going into town) and they know that I have lots of savings tins ready to open so are expecting quite a bit to pass over the counter. It will not be long before I break open my 1p a day and £1 a day savings tins (2 of each this year) so I will soon find out if the post office also has restrictions on how much I can deposit in coins.
Right, I've got more scout banking to get deposited this morning. I'd better go and see if there are more £2 in those bags I've been given.

Just bagged up another £72 for November. I have the day off work today so going to spend them on Christmas shopping. I will take them to the bank and exchange for notes. Might risk taking in 10 bags and see what they say! If not, I'll return to tomorrow to bank tnem.
