I had read mixed reports on Lovefilm, so decided the only way was to try it for myself....
It was a nightmare from start to finish
They didnt confirm the account had been set up so i had no idea they had activated the account. The dvds kept coming i kept sending them back with email after email to stop sending them out. I couldnt sign in to the account in the first place...it took 3 weeks for them to FINALLY cancel my account, AFTER taking the first payment, which i finally flipped and threatened legal action if they didnt refund me.
The dvds they sent were low on my list so the ones i REALLY wanted to see never came and i always seemed to get the 'special effects' 2nd disc of a set...drove me insane. It took 3-4 days for the next dvd to arrive (a crappy one again)
I eventually got it all cancelled. OH cancelled his too, cant deal with a company whos customer service was this bad, and have gone to Blockbusters. have been brilliant so far, so will stick with these.
My advice to potential account holders.....?
Try it by all means, but expect alot of frustration and emails that dont answer your question and are standardised replies...
Quite frankly AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR SANITY!!!!
seconded (oh my message is too short :rolleyes:)Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -

Blockbuster are the only real alternative that offer a good service.0 -

thanks Jag - may check them out - can one order the list and get them exactly in the order you put them (as Amazon used to do) ? Subject to disc availability obviouslyHate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

Ye try Blockbuster ..... they are good.
Google one month free trial !0 -
Quite agree - I took advantage of their free trial. And I could not cancel for the want of trying.
All my calls went unanswered, emails ignored. I kept leaving messages (as their lines went unanswered), to which I'd get home to a message asking me to call them back and confirm cancellation. (I can't take personal calls during the day); So starting a never ending circle of messages.
So in the end I reported my credit card as lost to stop the payments. Changed my address on their site to their own address, and put a spam blocker on their email address.
Worst firm ever! Bunch of cheating cowboys!
Good riddance. And now they've taken over Amazon DVD rental.
So I've jumped ship from Amazon before they completed and went to Blockbuster - so far so good!
wish I'd have known how bad they were before the handover - if i'd have known I'd have jumped ship tooHate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

Something strange going on, as yes there are a few people who have problems and say they would never use them again, yet there are many like myself who have been using them on and off for years and they have been absolutely excellent.
When you can get around 7 - 9 discs per week coming in each and every week most weeks and no problems and an excellent price too, it put the expensive Amazon only a few discs per month service to shame. Around 30 discs per month is a bargain.
It is very strange that some people have problems yet many don't.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

reading your post I get an impression of the pronlem being in a small minority - reading the whole thread I don#t - it seems a sizeable chunk.
Of course everyone will have different things that matter to them - number of discs per week/month does not matter to me at all - you seem to be majoring on that aspect but as I say that is not of interest to me at all.Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

Yes, you list them in the order you want them. They try to give you your first title in the list (subject to disc availability) and if not move down to the next one on your list. This is how I took how it works from my time with them.
If you go through Quidco you can get £7.50 cashback for taking out a trial with them (says 2 weeks on Quidco) but was actually one month when I joined, and I think still is.0 -

Well if I'm paying so much for a service then I want to get as many discs as I can.
For example if I am paying £14 per month and I get just 8 disc per month whereas the next service for the same money I can get 30 discs per month - and if you have read my posts I have had no issues other than one or two discs over several years that were faulty and quickly replaced and to get around 30 discs per month - the turnaround if very quick then I would be stupid to go for just 8 discs when there is a service that offers 30 discs and has been extremely reliable.
Seems you haven't read any of my previous posts and just jumped on the fact I mentioned the number of discs - yes the number of discs is important to me - but then so is reliability - there's no point in me paying good money if the service is unreliable - but it can't be if they are able to turnaround so many discs and I've been using them on and off for years.
I've used Blockbuster too in the past and they have been excellent - more or less as good as Love Film for me - get around 30 discs a month too, just their website was more fiddly than Love Film.
Friend used to use Amazon, but it was very poor value for money and he has been using Love Film and Blockbuster with no problem, as have other friends and family members. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc...
