Courier Cost Cutting Feedback/Discussion thread

Bought a bed from ebay (French style with large wooden bed head and stead with mattress ) small double. I need to get it from Bristol to Bournemouth. A van will probably cost me around £90 + a day`s work and the courier I phoned quoted £110. Any ideas on how I could get it cheaper?
Do not forget fuel costs if you are hiring a van.I would assume £30-£40 would be a conservative estimate."Do not let what you can't do interfere with what you can do."0 -

just put the sender / reciepient's name for sender / recipient company. i'm sure it actually told me to do this when i was using it0 -
sender is well obviously...you, delivery contact is their name, delivery company is the company or house name/number.
once you've put the postcode in, you only have 2 delivery detail fields that you to fill in the rest is done for you.0 -
I have just used Worldwide Parcel Services, from the link on here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/cheap-parcel-delivery#other
I used them for to send a small parcel to Australia they seem to be the cheapest around. http://www.worldwide-parcelservices.co.uk/quote/australia
They have a ebay shop as well, so you could look for a quote for your large bed delivery there.0 -
Sent quite a few 20-30kg parcels to Australia with them, price is good.:T
Costs around £90 for 23kg, PPP tried quoting £240:rotfl::rotfl:0 -

I'd never heard of it before but found it through google, and it was free to use so i thought why not. I received loads of bids from different couriers who all ended up undercutting eachother and ended up with another bargain.
Has anyone else used this before? I felt quite lucky in the end that i stumbled across it.I'd defo recommend it to anyone thats getting stupidly high quotes!
:money:
I used this shiply.com recently aswell but i found them on yell.com, wasn't sure at first how it could work but I put on a pool table i had won on eBay from Birmingham to Leeds and i must have saved a good £50 I reckon based on the quotes I got elsewhere. I'd definately recommend it if you're looking for a good discount....0
