Found out what happened, the neighbours (clearly at 88) let us know this morning that the DHL card was left with them (should have been to 86 and they weren't in to explain, maybe a typo (not mine), maybe misread by driver, maybe just took a right instead of left as it's a semi-detatched). Anyway, hadn't seen any DHL van go by as the main roads a little blocked from view, but.... PPP emailed at around 9am to let us know they'd rebooked collection today (i hope), and have put notes on both 88 and 86A (a large appartment block)'s doors just incase. So if they turn up at the right place today i'll be impressed :)

UPDATE: weyhey, just collected! :) driver (obviously different from yesterday) was a little bemused at why there were so many signs around directing him here ;), he obviously knew the right place, and also said that what usually happens was if there's a problem with collection they phone the depo to get a contact number from them then phone to ask the person to give directions, and was surprised no one did that yesterday. anyways... thanks Yevette @ ppp for the help if you ever read this :)
  • :jI use parcelmachine, I've tried all the others, got ripped off by ppd and the others are very very slow to reply to queries and complaints. Although all the dhl agents have the same contract etc. with dhl, I prefer great customer satisfaction and support than cheap rates. parcelmachine do uk 1-2 days (all mine have arrived next day) for £7.59 including vat..they have some of the best prices for euro parcels also and you can log into to track the exact status of your parcel 24/7 no hanging around waiting for replies etc. and get a quote in 5 seconds instantly.!!!

I need to deliver a double divan bed to St Ives in Cornwall. The trouble is that it's more than 300 miles off our route this week. Does anyone know of a company which would take large items without damaging them?
  • :jyou'll most likely need a man and van for that job although if it can split it could go on a pallet, try some pallet companies

Unfortunately even if we could get it on a pallet, most pallet companies won't deliver to private addresses.

For what a man with a van would charge we might as well deliver it ourselves, or get Kozeesleep (the manufacturers of the bed) to deliver it for £150.

I've just remembered a site that I have used before www.freight2mail.com It's a site that couriers and haulage companies use to advertise space for back loads.
  • yes I've used them before, I find pallex good though, they took my hubby's motorbike frame on a pallet no problem.
  • i don't think it has much to do with private addresses but assistance the other end, pallex are great they even supply the pallet!

    Heyyyy
I have bought something of Ebay which weighs 11kg.
Is there any courier service which does not require the dimensions of the package in advance?
Have looked through quite a few posts...but just wanted to see, is Pre Paid Parcel a "good one"? Or which other service is quite reliable?
    Thankssss

If I remember right Parcelforce go mainly by weight, although this may have changed. However they do have a maximum size limit of 1.5m in any direction.

You could use Direct Parcel Delivery. Their booking form doesn't ask for dimensions.
