Courier Cost Cutting Feedback/Discussion thread

you can open a credit account with a major courier such as DHL, parcelforce and etc. I guess the price they will give you is about £6.50 + VAT for 50 parcles pre week. If you send more, you will get more discount. Also your parcels are insured by courier directly. Not agent! It is a nightmare to claim the compensation from agent.
Thats sort of what I expected really and to be honest too much to justify when there are cheaper alternatives despite its benefits and the pitfalls of agents!
Good news is we got a credit through from PPP today (28 days later)!!
Still haven't come back to us with a any deal though, so I think we are going to more over to saletrack which provide a whole in house ecommerce and courier service. Spoke to them today and they sounded excellent; £200/month for a fancy ecommerce website and all the deliveries are automated with DHL; no cut off, no booking forms, email notification when dispatched and when out for delivery for the customer etc. Prices vary depending on quantity; as a guide 70 a week equates to £4.80+vat 24hr Omega, saturday delivery is £12.50 etc. (I am aware that for 99% of people on this board the above info is irrelevant)
So we shall see how this goes!0 -
>> as a guide 70 a week equates to £4.80+vat 24hr Omega,
wouldn't that make PPP cheaper? that's £5.64, PPP's 24hr Omega is only £5.50.

yes, but its worked out on your monthly bookings and the scale changes in 10ths so for example 150/week works out at £3.93+vat, also the automatic bookings from purchases off the website and ebay will save no end in time. Where it may be more expensive in the prime omega service, I can make it up with the cheaper NI & highlands, timed, sat etc. delivery options. For example sat is £12.50, PPP £19.45.
Anyway we're not VAT registered at the moment, but the way things are going there will be an inforced change on that anyway!
Crikey!! Just looked again at PPPs prices and N. Ireland has gone up to £11.95 from £8.45, I expect Wasif and his home-textiles 'outfit' are probably cheaper!0 -
Direct Parcel Delivery have responded to my email saying they have re-booked my parcel with City Link. Maybe it's not as bad as it seemed. I'll have to wait and see.Steve0

So overall very happy.
Though this applies for this company now and is no indication of longer term future performance, but can be used as a guidance for the short term.

I think its all legitimate myself, it would be very difficult to fly under the radar when your booking 300-500 parcels a day!
The bookings go through direct to DHL as well, no copy and pasting etc. Also according to our driver the booking get sent through to them on two different systems. So it sounds all fairly coordinated which wouldn't really be achievable without DHLs cooperation.
What will be the test is if they can get and maintain a large enough customer base to make it viable to charge the prices they do.0 -

Hi
I want to buy a supermarket shopping trolley(strange, I know!!). there is one on ebay starting at £28 plus VAT, which they said I can collect (but it is too far for me) and it is too big to dend as a parcel, and needs to go on a pallet.....they have quoted £47.20 plus VAT for this on a 3 day service.
This really bumps up the price of the trolley.
Any ideas which company I could contact in order to get a better price for delivery?
Thanks0
