Has anyone done the switch from the Nationwide  app    Flex Account then apply for a bank switch to Flex Direct .

Would this still give the £200 bonus ?
  • I wonder if I have attempted a switch too far?
It was supposed to complete by midday yesterday according to a SMS from NW.
It didn't. Yesterday evening DDs and payees had transferred. However, the "old" account balance had not, nor had the "old" account been closed.
I decided to transfer the balance to my regular current account but all the payees had been removed. Fortunately I was able to set up new and transferred the balance myself.
I contacted NW this morning, via "chat", connected to a person almost immediately. He's apparently going to contact their switching team to find out what went wrong and advise me by secure message.
I have not received any progress messages from them at all, which is contrary to what they say when applying to switch.
    Time will tell.

A lot of the Nationwide switching seems to rely on manual activity, and human errors do occur. I had one switch confirmed, then they changed completion to a different date without giving a reason - -  and eventually they didn't carry it out at all but never told me about it, or give me a reason for it. A formal complaint did resolve the matter to my satisfaction, although I had to re-request the switch, which was then completed as requested. If you aren't happy, complain.

I have a Lloyds current account that I don't really use much that I can switch to my existing Flexdirect account.
However it doesn't have any direct debits set up.

Can I set up 2 x separate direct debits to myself (in other savings accounts) or does it have to be to utility companies or mortgage etc?
  • Began the switch today.

Frustratingly I could not submit my ID online. The application form was insistent that I took a picture of it with my device. Well, I'm on a desktop without a camera, so no chance of that. There was no option to upload a photo so had to proceed without.

This has delayed my switch date and I have been given no further instructions as of yet for how to get my ID to them. I really hope I don't have to trapse to a branch.

I applied on a desktop on the 6th and could not do the video verification.  Switch date set to the 20Th and it’s all gone through, closed old account and incentive paid today.
  • I've applied to switch into my existing Nationwide Flexdirect account.
When I check progress on 'Track my switch' the actual requested dates don't come up , but instead I get 1st January 0001 in both boxes (start date and target completion date).

Has anyone else got this? Or have I done something wrong?

    Any DDs will qualify.

I signed up earlier and hit the same issue with ID upload - assumed it would let me upload images rather than requiring a camera! (and it seemed to almost 'approve' my application halfway through so I didn't want to risk trying again through my phone!)

For direct debits I signed up for a couple of monthly £1 ones to be taken on the first day of each month at https://www.smalldirectdebit.co.uk (go to 'Cheap direct debits' on the top menu then scroll down a bit), I just signed up for the same option twice which has created two individual direct debit references (they advise not to pick two different date options as it may stick them both under the same direct debit!)

Think it is my first 'switch back to a bank I switched to before', at least I won't need a pack of playing cards soon I'll just use my large stash of debit cards gathering dust instead!
  • When applying on my laptop I also encountered the i/d thing. It was stated that it would be done by post. I aborted the application and used my mobile phone and a Driving Licence picture and mugshot were accepted.
The switch finally completed yesterday afternoon and a confirmation S.M.S. received. The "losing" account is closed and the zero balance transferred. B)
