daisy_1571 said:our kids start their holidays right at beginning of July, some years last school day is still in June. They return to school about the 3rd week in August if that helps
We didn't realise Scottish school holidays started earlier than English ones
We will have the same again next summer I guess when we take the van up there.2 -

What about a cruise? All the entertainment on board; no rammed airport and get to visit different places; should be able to get a good deal

Hey Alt…. My 2 pennies. School holiday time with other kids around may be great for your son. We chose gites with shared facilities in France and Italy. 4-6 house complexes. The kids would run around with each other, all ages. We had a girl and a boy who had nothing in common so it really suited. I’ll never forget a bunch of Spanish kids miming at the door for our 8 yr old to come play football. It was so nice. We would bbq at night, listening to them laugh. Embrace. Don’t avoid. Being an only is hard in holiday. They confusion fun with entertainment.3

Thank you all for the Whitby, Scotland and general holiday advice. I’m going to have a think and speak to my wife. We’ve struggled to get much organised this year tbh the year has seemed to have flown by. I would love to go on a Nile cruise but one of my staff went and got quite ill and we could do without that ha.
I’m on my fourth day of cutting out all caffeine. First day was a bit accidental as my wife had been unwell (she’s fine now) so I was looking after her rather than drinking my usual 10+ cups of coffee. Tbh I didn’t really think it would affect me but I’ve been quite unwell with headaches and general tiredness from day 2. Somehow though I’ve slept, in bed for the same time as my wife and apart from waking up at 2am because I don’t think my body is used to sleeping that early I’ve been getting too much sleep, no doubt that’s connected to withdrawal but I’m going to see how it goes along with trying the acupuncture next week. I find it hard to want to look after myself but things are better for both my family and I when I do, I know that it’s not nice for them living with me when I’m not in a good way, no matter how I try to stay away that hurts them too.3 -
Meant to say, just having a quiet weekend apart from today we are going to take our son and his friend out for the day to the coast with the old cars. My friends with the old cars are coming too so three kids, four adults if you count my wife lol - not quite outnumbered ha.2

Wow, cutting out all caffeine after 10+ cups a day is a huge jump! Yes, it's bound to affect you - it may be a mild substance but it does affect us, and you had a lot of coffee.
If ever you play the 'demotivator' on the MSE website (or your own version of it), it shows up how even small habits can have a financial impact. Well, they can have a physical impact too.
Anyway, I'm cheering you on. I may have mentioned earlier that caffeine can tip me into anxiety, so I know it can be important. And hopefully the acupuncture will be a help too.
It's so true that your well being affects your family, whether because you are avoiding them or because they can see you aren't 100% and are concerned. They must love it when you have a good day and can just be yourself and enjoy their company.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

good luck on the caffeine reduction. decaff isnt terrible, but I find it easier to avoid completely although plain hot water can meet some of the needs. |A combo of squash or just plain water also worksI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long

Wow, when advising on sleeping i hadn't thought to ask how much caffeine a day you were having. Caffeine can do a lot of not necessarily good things to a body including, of course, affecting sleeping. You will also find as you get older things that didn't affect you will start to bother you, things that bothered you before now are OK.
I can see a difference in my sleeping patterns when I have Coca-Cola or a lot of chocolate as the caffeine is still in my system doing its thing when I'm in bed trying to sleep.
Thats enough for me as I don't drink any coffee (have never liked the taste although I do like the smell of coffee) and only a cup of weak tea a day. Someone who takes a lot of caffeine would think that's pathetic but its all about sensitivity. I've been on hot water for many years now so it doesn'ttake much to affect me. Like you, I drank over 10 cups a day for many years and it ended up that im now over sensitive to the tannin in tea. Coming off ut you will have a terrible caffeine withdrawal headache but that soon goes. Drink plenty liquid to flush your system out.

The day at the coast with the old cars sounds good. Hope it all went to plan. I love my coffee but can only drink two cups a day and usually stop by 10am. It doesn’t affect my sleep though and have even fallen asleep mid drink on the odd occasion I’ve had a cup at night 🤣
Good luck with cutting down, 10 is way too many. It just makes me really thirsty. All that aside I can’t believe how far you’ve come, you’re a different person, well done 👏I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3 -
I would suggest cutting down your coffee intake more gradually. Suddenly stopping is probably not a good idea.
