Easiest way to generate DDs is to shuffle around legitimate household bills (gas/electricity, water, council tax, etc). Outside of that, some options to artificially generate DDs are discussed here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5734632/savings-accounts-accepting-dds/p11 -
looks like i may have fallen foul of this: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/79487268/#Comment_79487268
although i don't see it in the T&C's just in the intro section of the offer description.0 -
My switch completed on 14th Sept. I checked for the 25% off offer yesterday and it wasn't there.
It has appeared today - 59 days left.
I should probably state that I have never held a Virgin current account before, so haven't previously received any switch incentive.
ETA - I didn't get an email confirming the switch was complete, but there was a secure message in the app#660 -

It is in the terms under 'how do I take up the offer' but it fails to mention the app there.
If being stingey with me wasn't idicative of their policies, I'd say you'll be alright:
The 'open in app or online' I believe is to stop the branches being flooded with people queuing/ postage admin - not a specific qualifying term.
What's more, it's their processes that stopped you opening online.
Let's hope they'll play fair with you, if not I'd go down the complaint route, too.1 -
Best to just wait for Virgin to do a traditional cash bonus like everyone else. They did the silly offers for wine, now they're doing this spend linked faff. In time they will do a normal switch bonus and based on other banks it has generally been worth it to wait and not take up the first offer.

I can't see a straightforward cash offer on the horizon either but, even if there is, the current switch offer value is pretty good compared to other offers, so I wouldn't be hanging on waiting. From VM's point of view, the current offer setup will potentially reduce the number people switching to collect the bonus but not actually using the account, as they'll have to get used to using it regularly to get the cashback. It also means they won't necessarily have to pay out the full £160 in all cases as some people won't spend the required £640 in 2 months to earn the full cashback amount

edit: got through and actually more than helpful but iv'e got to wait the 14 days as per the T&C's.
As I thought: I wasn't getting the 25% cb.

Completed the application online. I must say the questions at the end left me non plussed i.e. you opened an account in 2009 ....... plus similar questions. I took a guess?? !!!!!!??0
