Bollox to electric chocolate maker and tempering. I am just going to wing it. :rotfl:

When you do eventually get round to doing it, (good luck also!) are you going to wing it with the bowl & saucepan method or the 'ping' method? Wing with the ping? :rotfl:

Was going to do the bain marie thingy or whatever it is called, :rotfl: but think it would be easier to pour the choccie into the moulds from the jug I will put in the microwave, than try and pour it from a bowl. Decisions decisions.

    Define bar... 35gr? 100gr? 500gr? :rotfl:

Or that toblerone bar I have in the cupboard that I keep drooling over (it's now a little soggy...) which is HUUUGE.... don't think I can sneak that in as a "bar" really... drat...

  • Hi,
Fantastic chocs on here but just wanted to know which brand of chocolate do you recommend for melting to making these chocs? Have read through as much as I can but before I try I would like to get a feel of whats best! Have tried some from tesco in the cooking ingredients aisle but tasted cheap and nasty. Cant remember what it was called though!

    Thanks!

I (and little one) am currently making a choc heart slab for his childminder for valetine's day.

I'm also making some choccies and fudge as gifts. Will post pics when they're done.

If you know what type of chocolate the person you are making them for would like, I'd say go for that - or at least make sure it works OK first (possibly with a trial run). The chocolate kit I got last Easter says you should only use 'compound' chocolate (cooking chocolate) but the normal eating chocolate seems to work too. Some people have been saying that their chocolate hasn't set properly or rather that the chocolate has melted in their hands when they pick it up after setting, not sure if that is caused by using eating chocolate rather than cooking chocolate...again, trials could be the answer. I personally like Dairy Milk and there is a cooking version of that to be found in some supermarkets. HTH.
