NS&I website - going round in circles trying to log in

  • I've been having this issue on and off on my home PC but think I have found the cause for me anyway, so hopefully the following might be of help. I am with Virgin broadband but occasionally use a 4g TP-LINK router and it is then the problems occur. There are a few things happening, all of which contribute to the issue. I have been able to replicate the problem and fix it repeatedly.

First make sure your internet provider does not have parental controls enabled. In my case the Smarty 4g had by default.

Check your router for any parental control settings. My TP-LINK also had parental controls on. I might be able to whitelist the NSANDI site but not tried that yet.

It seems if the IP address has changed then the registered device in the browser will also need to be cleared so either use a private browsing session or clear cookies and history.

I am able to access the site now but while I was having the problem, I would sometimes get further through security than others before getting an error. Extremely annoying.

I can't log in on my desktop. All the browsers come back with error messages saying the site is not secure.
Firefox "The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified."

Edge "This page isn't working at the moment
    secure.nsandi.com didn’t send any data."

Chrome: "This page isn’t working secure.nsandi.com didn’t send any data.

    ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE"

It works in the browsers on my phone.

    Hi

Not sure if this is still relevant but I have been having trouble staying logged into NS&I website. I would log in, then be taken to the main page and logged out immediately after clicking any of the links with the following message:

"For security reasons, we had to end your session because you used the back button in your browser. Please try again and only use the buttons, links and menus on our secure website.

I  called NS&I and was advised to update my browser, update my OS, use different internet connection etc. None of these helped. After some research I managed to solve this problem.

Using google Chrome, go to NS&I website, nsandi.com, then click LOG IN and you will then be automatically redirected to LOG IN page. URL will be something like  secure.nsandi.com/....
    Now do the following:

    1. Click on the small tune/padlock icon next to the URL. (some versions of the browser will have padlock icon, newer versions will have tune icon)
    2. Click on Site Settings button

A new Settings page/tab will open with Site Permissions for the site secure.nsandi.com

    Locate the following permissions:
    3. Pop-ups and Redirects
    4. Ads
    5. Insecure Content

All these permissions should be showing as  Blocked (Default)
    6. Change each permission, from Blocked to Allow

    7. Once that is done, you can close the Settings tab then go to the NS&I website to log in. You should now be able to navigate through the NS&I website without being constantly logged out.

Thanks. It seems strange that those need allowing considering they'd seem to make it less secure.
