I applied originally in November 2022 - all info sent by email. Nothing, so I emailed SEG - they said since November they had new online process using the bot - so I did this - in Fevruary this year. Still nothing. I see on their site it looks like they have updated it further with pictoral info to help. I am sure I did get some info in the wrong boxes but still, nothing. Emailing them doesn't work. You can't just move - they've had months of power from me - I know it's small fry to them but it's a big thing for me. SP complaints department just say contact SEG - but they don't answer. It's hopeless!
I applied in October and have been chasing since myself. I finally got an MPAN number last
month but no notification of this registered and after another chase I was asked to do what is called MINFO registration today. Glad to hear I am not the only one struggling.
  • Further to my last coomment  - I wanted to go to Octopus - but they wouldn't have me as I don't have the right sort of smart meter and wren't interested in replacing mine - that was just before they aquired another million customers so... why would they need one more?  So I had to go woth SP as I am, unfortunately, already a customer....

I spoke to SP FIT team member today.  He advised that for those who have made SEG applications they ARE catching up on the backlog.  He said that on 18 May 23 the team were looking at 24 Feb 23 dated applications.

Then I must have been forgotten, I applied before that date! Oh dear...

I moved to Octopus in December from Scottish Power as I needed an EV tariff. I had a SMETS1 meter which didn’t transfer over completely as the gas readings wouldn’t show up so Octopus changed the meter. Sounds like things have changed? Sticking with my SP SEG application as I don’t want to lose the money I am owed since applying…

You won't get paid for anything generated before they actually get it fully set up. The longer you delay moving to another company, the more you will lose.

I started the process for getting registered for the Scottish Power Smart Export Guarantee in early November 2022. I used the online system for submitting the application, which I found fairly straight forward. However, I mistakenly believed the process would take 6-8 weeks as per the Scottish Power website. After 8 weeks, when I’d not heard anything I tried emailing for an update, however this did not illicit any response. I eventually managed to find a contact number via a thread on this forum and called the micro generation team. I was surprised to be advised that as I’d applied online they could not tell me whether the application had been received or not as they could not access the application system. All they could tell me was to wait to see if I heard back re the original application.

Eventually I received an acknowledgement of my application and over the course of the next 3 months the process ground on. I was finally asked to input my bank account details into their MINFO system at the end of April (a process that is not at all straight forward!), and having done this received confirmation that my export MPAN had been registered. I was asked at this point to ensure I submitted a meter reading on the 6 month anniversary of my application, which I did on the due date. A couple of weeks later I was again asked to input my bank details to MINFO(?). I queried this via email but again received no response. When I phoned I was told that the meter reading had been received and that the email had been sent in error. I was advised that payment should be received within 2-4 weeks. This time passed without receipt of any payment, and eventually in early June I was forced to call again. On this occasion I was advised that an invoice had been raised in respect of the payment and that this should be paid no later than the 3rd week of June. Again no payment was received. I had to call again today and Scottish Power could offer no explanation as to why they haven’t issued the payment. They have advised that they will escalate this but it will take up to another 4 weeks to resolve!

A further issue is the tariff. I queried the tariff I’m on in light of the increase that came into effect in February. I’d assumed that as I purchased the panels via Scottish Power I would on the higher tariff of 15p per k/w. Let’s just say I wasn’t surprised when they advised that they were actually paying me at the lower rate of 12p per k/w.  Again I have to email them asking for this to be resolved.

I get the impression that Scottish Power are making this process as painful as they can to discourage people from applying given the snails pace at which your application proceeds and then the time it takes for them to finally issue a payment. I would assume they would not be so slow in chasing for payment!

    Thanks RAB1967.
as you had got past the MINFO step are you able to share what you did? I have setup the account and logged in but no idea about the bank details. I had assumed this would be entered from the application I made at the end of September. No response from their email system.

It’s frustrating as I thought they would use the account details that I’ve got my direct debit set up to pay my bill. However, just like manually submitting meter readings from a smart meter, I needed to advise them of the account again. In order for MINFO to accept the account details I needed to certify the account. As far as I can remember the system doesn’t give guidance on how to do this. In the end I scanned in a redacted copy of my bank statement showing my account details and name. This worked as the account was accepted by MINFO.
I just need to get them to pay me now. Easier said than done!
  • We have been trying to submit our SEG application to Scottish Power for the last three weeks. Every time we press the ‘Submit’ button, nothing happens. Have been in touch with SP SEG department half a dozen times. We have used a different browser to Safari, as suggested by SP but still can’t submit the completed application.
Is anyone else experiencing this particular problem.
  • The longer they take, the more free power they get from us.
I have asked the MSE team to investigate.
So far, no answer from them either
