Wow - just reading all these posts is quite depressing. I was originally trying to make an SEG application with British Gas - but gave up in frustration at the lack of will to help. I chanced upon the Scottish Power application which is all on-line and took a few minutes - looks like I have a long wait to hear from them. Its a pity Octopus do not accept 'non supply' customers for SEG - or do they ?

How long does it take for Scottish Power to respond to a SEG application?  I submitted my SEG application on 5 April 23?
I submitted on 13th April 2023.  I am getting nowhere with them. I received an email with the EXPORT MPAN on 13th June 2023, and another email two days ago with a link to register on the payment website - which is useless because they have not issued a supplier number which you need to be able to use it.  I tried calling the telephone number given in one of the earlier posts but when I finally got through to someone they were no help at all.  Apart from confirming my account still wasn't set up and I don't have a supplier number.

I wish I'd gone to Octopus - no one seems to have SEG issues with them.  The only reason I didn't was because at the time I applied I was on a fixed price for my supply with British Gas and Scottish Power were therefore offering the best rate for SEG without supply as well.  Now I don't want to lose the payment for what I've exported since April from them.

If you can, avoid Scottish Power for SEG. Whole thing has been a pain from day one. 6 months to set up (website says 6-8 weeks). First payment took almost 8 weeks to be received and took about 3 calls and numerous emails before they paid out (I was told a payment should have been received within 2-4 weeks). Finally paid me at the wrong tariff 12p p/kw and not 15p p/kw. I was asked to send an email to have this resolved. 4 weeks later, no response. I phoned for an update today and they advise that the only way they can check the  tariff is for me to submit another reading, however I can’t do this until 11/11/2023. I did ask what if the tariff is still incorrect come the next meter reading. They couldn’t answer! They did eventually agree to escalate this, and said I should expect a response in 10 working days. Given how this has gone so far I fully expect that I’ll have to call them again and the issue still won’t have been sorted!
  • I agree @rab1967 - if anyone is thinking of being sucked in by the rates then just don't do it - the process is horrendous.  I have actually just contacted the energy ombudsman, their website mentions FIT but not SEG, so have enquired if they can help. You are however further ahead than I am! How did you manage to speak to the SEG team (who it seems are the only people you can deal with about this but totally elusive apart from the email address/black hole)

I still need a supplier number from Scottish Power to register for the payments - 4 months since application now..

Yes Octopus do - it was ~4p/kWh when I enquired - I wish I had just taken that as now they are my supplier.  I was with British Gas on a 2yr fix for supply but that finished recently and now I want to move my SEG to Octopus as well.  Only I haven't been paid anything by Scottish Power yet...

I did get the documentation from British Gas for SEG (was hard work) but went to SP for the better rate.  I read someone on my estate gave up with BG for SEG so I wouldn't have been any better off if I'd taken that route either.

Yes Octopus do - it was 6p/kWh when I enquired - I wish I had just taken that as now they are my supplier.  I was with British Gas on a 2yr fix for supply but that finished recently and now I want to move my SEG to Octopus as well.  Only I haven't been paid anything by Scottish Power yet...

    Details here:

The SEG rate is 4.1p/kWh for non customers and 15p/kWh or more for Octopus customers depending on tariff choice.

I have just got my "export MPAN number" email months after starting the SEG process with Scottish Power.  I am now waiting for the "MINFO" email without which I "CANNOT" register and there is no other way to provide bank details for payment.  Does anyone have a copy of a "MINFO" email/form from Scottish Power to enable me to see what to expect next please?  Perhaps it could be posted on this forum with any person detail suitable redacted?
    Thanks

Sorry - that's right @[Deleted User] I got muddled there I think BG was 6p/kWh, but no preferential rate if you were supplied by them
  • @Grandad43?

This forum says I'm not allowed to post links but I'll see if I can add a screenshot (prepare to be disappointed though).
