What is the Warm Home Discount and how can I apply? (moneyhelper.org.uk)worrywart_3 said:
What the appeal line?michaels said:
The default is to use the VOA with the EPC only used on appeal. When we bought, we were about 80m2, since extending we are about 150m2 and have an EPC to support that from our solar install so looks like I will have to appeal as the cut off is 83m2 for our house type.annabanana82 said:
Look at EPC reports which can be found easily onlinemichaels said:
Really helpful. Now I just need to know how many m2 the VOA think my house is - anyone know if this info is available?Spoonie_Turtle said:
I haven't looked for a little while but in the details it was based on property age/type/size, and the threshold wasn't set as an absolute, it was a percentile so they didn't know at all where it would actually be set until they'd run the calculation.michaels said:Gov site says notifications will start going out from the 14th....
Can't find anywhere that details the 'high energy need' calc
Ooh, no, actually here are some resultshttps://www.gov.uk/government/publications/warm-home-discount-eligibility-statement-england-and-wales
See the property characteristics combinations document
The eligibility statement p.15 shows the categories they use.
(And full rationale/detail behind it all if anyone's curious https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/warm-home-discount-better-targeted-support-from-2022 )
Appeal line opens on Monday so perhaps I will try and call then before the rush....

I've received the warm home discount every year but after reading this thread im concerned i won't be this year. I am unable to open the link on the gov website. Whats the chances of me receiving it this year?
House was built 2005, semi detached, 64 sq meters.
My boyfriend got his letter in the post yesterday saying he would be getting the warm home discount. His house was built 1900, mid terrace, 73 sq meters.0 -

House was built 2005, semi detached, 64 sq meters. The spreadsheet says low energy cost score
Also low energy costs score, but only just - they would need to be 75sq m or above to move to a high energy cost score.Helen_ said:

Thank you
So if the spreadsheet says low energy cost does it mean you defintely wont get the warm home discount or is there a chance you still could?0 -
Clearly not, as pointed out above, your boyfriends property is low energy score (just) and you say he received a letter saying he qualifies. Presumably what it does mean is that everyone with a high energy score should get the WHD assuming they meet the other criteria under the core group 2 eligibility.Helen_ said:Thank you

So how close is mine to high energy cost or not at all?0

Not close. All 2005 semi's that are smaller than 138sq m are low cost energy score, so even at twice the size it would still rank as low energy cost.

However you cannot challenge being excluded until you receive a letter saying you have been so you have a reference to quote - not sure what happens if you are excluded and don't get a letter?I think....0
