I just checked my accounts as I do everyday and saw that I got £3.32 from cash back with chase and I was so happy! So transferred it to my emergency savings
another NSD for me today and I send the letters to all my creditors explaining about my mental health and asking for debt write off. It will not work but if I don’t try for sure I will not get anythingTOTAL DEBT JUNE 2019: £38,233.87 Aiming debt free mid 2023. All bad debt written off / paid by January 2023. No missed payments in 2023. Only one active credit card to pay off! I DID IT 🎉1 -
So, I did send the letters asking for debt write off to all my creditors yesterday, and I also had sent the same letter via e-mail to the creditors that had an email address available in public (not all did!) to expedite the issue.
I also files affordability complaints for mis sold credit to two payday loans I had (one is paid off, one im still paying), just in case I could get some of the interest back.
A couple of my creditors have already answered my emails acknowledging my requests and my biggest creditor which is wescot (managing my NatWest loan, I have an outstanding amount of 14548 with them) have asked for more info and evidence so that they can make a decision. I sent wescot copies of my mental health diagnosis and my medications, it is good that I keep all this! and also from my PIP decision letter. All my medical evidence mention vulnerability and impulse control as well as excessive expending as a coping mechanism so I might have a slight chance of them actually listening to me!
MrLender asked for all my bank statements and credit report from the time they gave me the loan. The cheek of them... they accessed my credit report previous to giving me the loan AND they were granted access to check my bank transactions! Not an issue... I sent all they asked for.
Anyway! about the challenges... I spent 1.50 yesterday buying wrapping paper to wrap my husband's bday present so unfortunately it was a SD for me. However on the positive side, I felt very compelled to order take away, but the fact that I had to come here and say I had spent that convinced me NOT to order it! How amazing is that! so obviously public accountability seems to help
I feel like in only a week, my mental health has gotten better. I feel less anxious and a bit proud of myselfTOTAL DEBT JUNE 2019: £38,233.87 Aiming debt free mid 2023. All bad debt written off / paid by January 2023. No missed payments in 2023. Only one active credit card to pay off! I DID IT 🎉1 -
Well done. Writing those letters is hard and you have done great getting the motivation to do it. Even if they just wipe off a bit of interest, anything is better than nothing and it’s worth all the effort. You should be proud of yourself.Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

MrLender contacted me again offering me a 30% discount on my debt while they decide what to do with my file. They say they will consider writing off my debt after they look at the medical evidence so I have sent all my paperwork, the same paperwork I sent the other two creditors.I am printing all the emails and keeping them safe in a document filer just to make sure I remember who I have spoken with and about what.TOTAL DEBT JUNE 2019: £38,233.87 Aiming debt free mid 2023. Hello, I have just found your diary and will subscribe to cheer you along
You've done fabulously well at getting yourself organised and contacting all of your creditors, I hope they all come back with some positive news for you. Also well done on the mobile switch out, that's a really good deal!
Couple of things we have in common that I noticed;
Mental health - my shopping addiction is linked to my mental health and usually gets uncontrollable following trauma, such as bereavement. When I want to get my mind off things really. I have an addictive personality but I have been able to (slowly!) shift this addiction from spending money on 'stuff' to spending it on debt repayments and the MSE challenges.
Credit score - My credit score had been rock bottom since my early 20's (20 years ago - cripes!) and whilst I did reduce debt to get our mortgage offer last year my research found that having utility bills in your name helps your credit score. So when I moved last year I switched most bills from hubby's name to mine (as they were all in his name, even my phone was on his family plan). Hey presto, a couple of months ago my Experian score hit 999! Hubby's score has gone down a bit, but not by much.
Keep up the good work!
