  • I just tried to log into my NCO account to check on my vanquis debt and the account was closed. I called and they just told me they have closed my account today as a medical write off. Another £1117 gone!
I have asked them to send me a letter putting that in writing to make sure I have it for my records.

I literally only have one bad debt left: my outstanding EE bill of £2247.  I sent them the exact same paperwork I sent all other and seeing I got nearly £16k written off in a week I can’t help but feel positive that they will agree to close that or offer me a lower settlement 🤞🏻
TOTAL DEBT JUNE 2019: £38,233.87 Aiming debt free mid 2023. All bad debt written off / paid by January 2023. No missed payments in 2023. Only one active credit card to pay off! I DID IT 🎉

Hi! I hope you see this message - I've really enjoyed reading your diary.
I found it as I am about to contact my creditors about having my debts written off due to various mental health issues.
My biggest ones are to Very (£4700) and Halifax (£12,700). I swear if they help me like I help you I will also scream!

Can I asked where you found the template for the letter? Presuming they contacted your GP?

    Thanks!
  • Hi. Sorry I just saw this. I didn’t use a template I wrote my own I basically explained what happened and ask them to consider helping me and why it would be beneficial for them and for me to write off my debts.
I did not talk to my GP I contacted my psychiatrist directly but I mainly did all the hard work myself

To be honest I don’t know if they contacted my GP. I don’t think so cos answers came so quick after my last letter and plead I think they pretty much gave up and decided I was a lost case and was easier to just “let me go”. For the write off you have to be patient as they won’t accept at first try most likely you will need to accept a no, continue paying £1 to each creditor dos six months and write again. That’s how it worked for me. Maybe even a third time. The most important part is NEVER stop paying the £1 token it shows willingness to solve your debts despite not being able to. The longer you go paying token payments they greater the chances to get the debts written off. You can reach me via PM if you wish (you and anyone) as i have some advice im not comfortable giving in the open.

  • Alright, an update is due isn’t it.

EE agreed to not pursue the debt so basically even though not in those words, the debt is frozen and it’s not being paid. All my bad debt that I had in 2019 (£38k +) is GONE.

I only have one active CC from M&S with a limit of £2200 which I am now using and paying off sensibly. No missed payments at all in 2023 and no new debts, so I feel like a “normal” person with a normal amount of consumer debt that is being managed properly.

My credit score is still a mess cos of course all the defaults are still there but they will drop eventually and I am not bothered as I do not need/want credit! It is still better than it was and I feel incredibly proud to see the “up to date with all payments” part.

My husband and me opened a savings account together for the first time ever (yesterday) and we are putting £100 each monthly away  for holidays. We are saving for holidays!!! I can’t even fathom we are actually saving together.

I am also now being able to save a bit on my end into a stocks and shares ISA ( just £50 monthly). My money management is far from perfect and I still tend to overspend when I am in mental distress but it’s so much better than it was… and as long as I don’t accrue new debt I am contempt.

I am still convinced that I will end 2023 with NO debt in my name. My mental health has improved a lot and I am really grateful to the creditors that agreed to help by settling for less or writing off debts.

Now I am quite passionate about helping others with mental health issues and debt to find peace of mind so if anyone reads this and needs a chat or advice I’m always reachable via private message :)

I will continue to update from time to time on how I’m doing and I’ll definitely come and celebrate with you all when my net worth is 0 or positive!
