    'Sold out', apparently.

    Energy bills: E.on’s one-year fix sells out amid cost-of-living fears

    MoneySavingExpert’s Martin Lewis says deal is a ‘corker’ as prices are likely to rise later this year

    An energy tariff offering fixed prices for a year has sold out within hours of being publicised, after consumers rushed to try to protect themselves from the effects of the war in Ukraine on household bills.

    E.on’s Next Online V11 tariff promised prices fixed for a year, set at the same level as Ofgem’s new capped rate.

    Launched in mid-February, and only available to existing E.on customers, the deal had largely gone unnoticed until the MoneySavingExpert founder, Martin Lewis, highlighted the tariff on Monday.

    Within hours it was pulled from sale by E.on, such was the demand from people desperate to shield themselves from further energy price increases.

    Dual fuel gas and electricity bills are already set to rise more than 50% to an average of just under £2,000 per household on 1 April after the regulator, Ofgem, increased the cap on unit prices – the maximum suppliers can charge households.

    However, analysts have warned that the war in Ukraine could lead to a further 50% increase when the cap changes again in October, leaving households facing the prospect of paying £3,000 a year to heat and light their home.

    “If you’ve been offered this rate as an E.on customer you should bite its hand off and take it, as energy prices are anticipated to go up again later this year. It’s a corker,” said Lewis of the tariff on Monday.

    The deal was only available to existing Eon customers who paid by direct debit.

    An E.on spokesperson said: ”In these challenging times, we’re doing our best to offer competitive tariffs for our customers and to have them available for as long as we can.

    “Our tariffs have to reflect the costs we pay on the global wholesale market and we offer a number of ways we can help customers through these difficult times.”

    Since the start of the energy crisis last autumn, switching in the energy market has all but ceased as suppliers have collapsed and there has been no incentive for companies to try to attract new customers.

    Even before the events of last week, households were facing up to the prospect of high energy bills as part of the cost-of-living crisis.

    On Monday, the Bank of America warned UK households could suffer the biggest annual decline in their living standards since the 1950s.

    I missed out, was going to take the V11 1 year fix today, it's been pulled. I had a sneaky feeling come March 1st they could get pulled (kicking myself)
    Anyways V12 looks like the only option now or stay on their Net Flex variable.
    Variable for me £99 pm or fix for £113 pm. I still get a discount for paying DD on the variable tariff but not on the fixed tariff.
    No-one can say what's going to happen between now and next October, or in-between for that matter re prices.
    If you've had the email offering the v11 online fix, then why not phone EON to see if they will honour the tarriff, can't hurt to try.
    No letter or emails to me offering the V11 fixed tariff. I just noticed it has come off this morning to be replaced by V12 1 year fix. Prices gone up from the V11 obviously.
    So having given it careful thought, worked a few figures out I've stuck on a variable rate, their new Next Flex. It's actually the tariff prices on their now pulled V11 fixed tariff but with a discount for paying via DD. Obviously come October it depends how the market is then, we could see s 20% ish rise or worse, nobody knows at this time.
    Suppose I could have got on the phone and asked for the V11 or even ask for my new tariff to start from 1st April.
    Job done now, they estimate my DD to be £99, if I took the V11 fix yesterday it would have been £102, the V12 fix shows it at £113 pm.
    To think as an ex Igloo customer I was paying them around £50 pm DD this time last year.🤔

    I went for the two year fixed deal, v18. DD discount was not shown in the tariff quote!! So the deal was better than it looked. I actually got out of bed just before midnight to switch when i read about the 1 and 2 year fixed tariffs. A good decision.
  • I got the letter on Friday and did the 36 min wait on the phone but the agent told me that the v11 offer had been withdrawn before my letter even went out. That was very odd but I'll live with it.
  • I keep seeing people say that they've had an email offer from Eon Next. How do you get these emails? I don't get any from them but have agreed to emails.
  • I just enquired about the v11 deal after reading about it in my email. Unfortunately the lady on the phone told me they have cancelled the deal last night due to so much demand. She only offered me the v12, which has the following (much worse) rates:

    Electricity
    * 34.66 pence per kwh
    * 41.66 pence standing charge.

    I also find it frustrating that all of the new sites quote the following rates for the new price cap:

    * 28.34 pence per kwh
    * 45.24 pence standing charge.

    However, I am apparently put on different numbers listed below:
    * 29.484 pence per kwh
    * 41.66 pence standing charge.

    The lady said the numbers were different because it can vary by region. I'm wondering if these energy suppliers are allowed to reduce the daily standing charge to bump up the per kwh rate though? I would much rather be paying a higher daily standing charge for a lower unit rate.

    You can find the cap for your region at the link in my signature, assuming you are paying by DD.
    The numbers you have posted look like South-East region (formerly SEEBOARD?)

    Yes, they are. There is a maximum standing charge and a maximum total cost for the typical use figures but flexibility within these limits. Mostly the standing charge seems to be at the maximum allowable though. Note that it's only the standard 'variable' tariff that is governed by the price cap. Other 'deals' (typically fixed term contracts) can charge what they want, and there is more scope for variability there.
